i paid for a '1 page' website which i would have then connected to software (such as whmcs) and the guy was called 'daniel heller' had a flashy website and a fantastic portfolio, and we agreed on a price of $200 -> it wasnt meant to be a tacky template crappy website, but something beautiful. After agreeing for $200, i made the agreement that i would pay half up front, and the rest when i saw something (ie screenshots or psds or something) I never saw a website, never got a reply, i gave him a month to build the page before asking him why it was taking so long. That $100 i never got back, the scammer keeps farming for more victims all the time, i found him on the wht forums -> im confident that that guy probly never built a website in his life, and he would make more money from victims then doing the work.

Id bet any money that guy is on here and on other forums farming for victims.

Admittedly, I have been quite lucky. I had a user purchase a featured link on one of my directories (at the time it was only $1), and after their link got accepted, they put a payment reversal in on paypal. I knew i had no choice but to take the loss, since paypal offers no protection to digital sellers.

I don't actually lose money but work. When I first join freelance work, I always complete the work before get any payment to build up my reputation. Some of the buyer don't pay at all.
After I have good reputation and job load, i only work after get the deposite.
