Buying a 100k site, how to make sure not to get screwed.

I've already consulted a lawyer but their fees are extremely high. But was wondering what are some things to be aware of that can happen.

Deal will be via Escrow and will be sent piece by piece. If the domain is transferred to my account, will there be anyway for me to get screwed?

    1. Use Escrow ONLY & consider using a formal, written contract of sale.
    2. Seller agree to transfer the domain name to the YOU first, then send payment.
    3. Immediatly Change all the login details and passwords after the transaction has been completed.

When purchasing sites which are a considerable amount of money I would suggest meeting the people in person.

Make sure there aren't legal issues with the domain or site. Especially if the domain is using a possible trademarked term. You'd hate to have bought their legal troubles!

There is already a contract and states the sale of the domain. Also there is a agreement that there are no liabilities or debts prior to the sale.

I just want to know once the domain is transferred to me, can they somehow get it back.

For such a big deal, other than the usual, try and meet the seller personally, check their background, office..etc, learn the dos and don'ts of the website, history etc, other than establishing credibility you will also be able to get many insights about the site you are buying

Yh, I would advise meeting the seller and once domain is transferred it is locked for 60 days and you can keep it LOCKED :)

Quote from Domain Company - "Domain locking is designed to prevent domains from being transferred without the Domain Owner’s express consent. It also prevents name server (DNS) changes. Your Domain Provider can LOCK and unlock your domain. Please contact them directly to make any changes."

Hope this is useful, Please Leave Rep :)
