It figures that someone who is too stupid to come up with an original idea and has to try and make a few cents off the theft of others has never heard of image recognition technology. PicScout, TinEye, and others. The courts have ruled caching pages (like Google does) is "fair use" and also qualifies for the DMCA's 512(b) caching "safe harbor" for online service providers. Google doesn't need your permission. On the other hand, what you are doing is both criminal (people have gone to jail in extreme cases) and subjects you to civil damages.

Is the worst that can happen is that they ask you to remove the images?

I can't see anyone going after a small time webmaster?

Then again if you site is full of stolen images I guess they might.

I was really just talking about a few images that were resized much smaller than the original, thing is I saw lots of copies of these images in google images as well.

Also say if you flipped the image from left to right and altered the hue so the colours were different and then resized it, maybe now it is my copyright? :D

The copyright holder can demand you pay usage rights (thousands per image is not unusual). They can sue you. They can file a DMCA with every major search engine to have your site removed. It is cause for terminating your adsense account.

It's not your image. You can't use it without permission. Flipping the image, resized, changing hues, etc., are derivative copies (copyright infringement). Buy the image. Get permission. Use your own camera.

There are many websites with copyright free images do not use google images or you may get in trouble.

    It's just google images.

If someone were to actually raise concern about a photo on your website, then they'd just make you remove it. So worst case situation would mean you'd have to replace the picture with another picture from google images lol.

either way, the chances of this actually happening is slim

The worse thing can happen is, your adsense will get banned. if you do copy images regularly, than use some offshore hosting company. Big companies like hostgator, bluehost will suspend your accound if a valid dmca is filed against you. but the offshore hosting companies will never suspend you.

It is extremely risky, I have read online where people have been asked to pay for images that they are accused of using without permission.

No, you need copyrights to images and copying them can potentially open a can of worms. Go to istock or somewhere like that

In a company you should never use exact images on your website.

Yes, I used the Images from Google images. It will be great useful for for me as well to use the Google images on my website. Some of them are copyrighted and did not use through our web site. If anyone got licensed then It will be helpful as well.

Of course i use them. But, only after looking into the original source website (if there is any copyright notice, we should have to follow it). Like many websites given the permission to re-use, distribute them with the help of creative commons and other well known licenses.

Yes, I am completely agree about it. But, Little more confused regarding this information. What kind of websites you use that easily gives you permission for reusing the images? Thanks for your input over here.
