    akashgarud,

This is an excellent question. Facebook should still be used as part of an overall marketing mix to promote brands. Since it has been around a long time, there are many people on the site. You can use this to connect with people whose businesses or interests are relevant to what you have to offer. There are other social networking sites that are up-and-comers in the industry as well; Pinterest comes to mind. Social networking should not be done to the exclusion of other marketing tactics, however. You should create content that people will want to link to and submit it to articles. It is also important not to neglect print media so that you can get business from all sectors of the population for whom your product or service is relevant. Here are a couple of links that cover Facebook marketing within your marketing mix:

    Hope this answers your question,

Interesting. Thanks for the reply shawn. Yes i have been using twitter as well from a long time. But twitter dont provide much interface to share the things more than one time. I have to type RT before the last tweet to share that again.

It looks time consuming. So facebook is a much better place to promote and share the posts as many times you want. :)

The closest thing to checking your mailbox would be checking your social network activity such as Facebook. So you do the math here. :D

    Hi akashgarud,

Thank you for your nice comment. Twitter has its place as well since many people have short attention spans and will not necessarily read a full piece. Twitter's 140 characters is best used for short and to-the-point marketing messages. As to your statement about Twitter marketing being time-consuming, this may be true but it can have big payoffs if done correctly. There was a recent post on the different forms of social network marketing on the Forbes site yesterday. Here is some of what Elaine Pofeldt, a contributor there, said in the article:

"I hate sales,” he says. “I can’t stand the process. It’s this posturing thing. The customer doesn’t say what they want to spend. The vendor doesn’t want to say what it’ll cost.”

So instead of , say, cold-calling potential customers, he put up a profile on Manta. He began sharing his tips (on doing things such as starting a Facebook fan page) on MantaConnect, a part of the site where members can respond to each other’s questions. “I was spending two to three hours a day answering questions,” he says.

Sounds like a big waste of time, right? But all that posting paid off for him. He soon found himself with customers approaching him. Lewis, who joined the site in late 2011, has won both monthly retainer clients who need ongoing help with tasks like maintaining a website, and customers who need one-time projects done. "

You can find the article here:http://www.forbes.com/sites/elainep...ing-sites-time-suck-or-killer-marketing-tool/

Hope you find this article helpful as you move forward with your business,

    Shawn

Facebook has the most number of daily visits compared to all other social networking sites. This is because the site itself is user-friendly and doesn't require some kind of syntax to use it. Twitter on the other hand is used generally by more educated people. :)

I created a facebook page for my company, but I can't figure out how it can help with advertising. Since it is a company account, I am not able to search for people, add friends, or message people. The page just sits there waiting for people to like it. Its been open for 3 months and only had 6 likes, which are from my friends. How can I turn this into an effective advertising tool?

It is hard to amass so many people together in the same place like facebook. If one posts 'A', it is viewed by thousand. So what better place than facebook for publicity???

Social media is a great tool to promote brands because with social media, or Facebook in this case, you have the opportunity to interact with your followers. This interaction could lead to action and that means sales. Many interesting activities that brands promote on Facebook too (like events and contests), and doing this is a great idea because active followers will always be updated.
