What kind of business should I open after college?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by milos112, Oct 2, 2012.

Hey, I am a freshman in college. I was wondering what kind of business should I open after I graduate. Is it even worth it? Some people told me it is better to wait, and gather some money and open something bigger. What do people need nowadays?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,

your questions is kind of very general one. Nobody's really going to tell you what kind of business to open, because it entirely depends on what you like, what are you good at, what kind of budget you have and what do want to do. Also it depends whether you want an online business or offline ( in this case it depends on where you live and what kind of services your country or city needs ). There are hell of a lot different business models and they all work. However, they require different skills, time and amount of money to be invested. So if you want some kind of advice, try to be more specific. Keep in mind that online business requires work time and effort and it's not something you are going to do overnight. Although, the more money to invest you have, there easier to start it'll be since you'll be able to outsource some of the work. I do suggest to learn things and read a lot before you put your money into it... Just to get better understanding of how things work in general. I hope that helps a little bit.

I would suggest to get a good job first and save as much $$ as possible. Once you feel that you can stand firm on your own two feet, the sky will be your limit.

Do what you're passionate about. Don't think about what people need. If you do only what people need without following your heart, you'll get very disappointed along the way. Find your true passion and follow it. It can anything: an online venture, your own store, a small business, bakery, etc...

Go and get exprience in your niche. Then became a specialist in it. That's a good way.

That's a very good point you made. People these days are looking for ways to make money online and to start business. And lot of them are end up being frustrated and disappointed because they are not interested in the topic and it's a pain in the butt to learn things when they are not interesting to you in the first place. Which only leads to failure, because while there are a lot of methods that earns money if applied correctly, you most like will not be able to keep up with updates or to make a lot if you are not enjoying the process. In other words, it is very important to do what you like and to enjoy that constant learning and providing value. It is always easier to become an expert in a field which you are interested in and passionate about. I cannot tell you how many people live miserable lives just because they do jobs they hate and even if it makes them quite a lot of money they're still not happy about it. Don't do the same mistake. As someone else mentioned, find a niche that you really like ( can be whatever you like ) and become an expert in the field. You can basically monetize everything, you just need to know your thing inside and out. I hope that makes sense. And sorry for the long post :)

Never wait . You can start a business online without high set up cost and you can sell something that do not need place lot of cost in it .
I saw a 12 years old kids success earn big bucks with open a forum and you are already college. Nothing is go for too early , success is only when you try it and taking action.

You mind think of selling idea , selling affiliates products , selling service with your expertise , write a blog or create a forum and start making money with adsense or selling ads space and so on . Lot of thing you can do to make money without large invest and spending.

Be honest with yourself. Ask yourself what business interests you have and whether you have enough passion to do it. There are numerous things to consider before you start a project such as that. You can have all the money in the world but if you lack interest, your project will flop. A good piece of advice is that you start small and see whether that is what you would like to do other than jump in headlong and fail. On second thoughts, why don't you make sure you finish your college successfully before considering your business options. I suppose your exams should be coming close from your description.

I wouldn't wait until you're out of college, I had my first online business when I was like 10. I'd suggest to start off with some small online businesses, nothing requiring too much money to start off. This way if you fail you wont lose a lot of money and you'll get valuable experience that will be of good use for your larger projects down the road.
