Are social networks really social?

I have been wondering recently if social networks like twitter and others(excluding facebook) are really social.I mean we use them mostly to get traffic for free to our websites and blogs.They are perfect source of quality traffic and unique visitors.But except Facebook,I don't think people use social networks for sharing private stuff.I think all the other social networks except facebook are business related.Facebook is great for business too,but so many people communicate there.People get married after meeting on facebook...I didn't heard any of the other networks to be such place.

 

Facebook and G+ are the best. But i too agree with you. I too use stumbleupon, digg, twitter and reddit. They are not social as FB and G+

 

I used facebook only to play different games. It wasn't until after some time that I actually realised all the benefits that this social network could bring. Not only could I see what my friends were up to, but I could also receive a constant flow of news from different newspapers, televisions or celebrities. Quite quickly I became more and more attached to it and ever since I came to the UK, it has proved to be my main tool of communication with friends from back home but also with the friends that I made here.

 

Social networks like twitter are common platforms for business to connect with clients and customers by providing them with updates etc.

This is because majority of the clients/customers will have social networks configured on their smart phones and browsers, hence sending the message to them would be much faster and convenient through social network.

 

They are social.
Like you said in your post, you use it to gain traffic, just like most other marketers.
Use it as an actual social platform and I can guarantee you will get twice as much traffic from them.

 

Social media is this year's black and the most cutting edge form of marketing and networking. Why? Because it takes us back to basics, back to real time two way communication.

I think social networks *are* social in that you get to interact with people from all over the world through these networks. On Twitter, you can rant and rave and share. Same with Facebook. There are levels of privacy now, unlike before when these networks first started, so you don't see much personal interaction as users are most likely to keep certains posts and uploads to select group of people.

Social media is the place where you want to focus. There is not only Facebook, Twitter, Youtube. There are many other places where people talk and share their ideas, like Digital Point. And as you know, Google loves links from social media sites.

 

We get traffic from all of the major social networking sites.

I have a Facebook account which I use only to keep the contact with my old school mates and friends who live far away. For my traffic and other commercial things I have a different Facebook account and a Twitter one. You can consider them social places because one way or another you are socializing with other people.

 

Yes,I am agree with you...I have a account of Facebook..I also use it for my personal case ...

But all site is not like this..
