Let's talk about our future (web developers)

How do you think our future will look like?
I mean the future of Web Developers (including programmers, seo guys, marketing guys and all that stuff).

I am asking you this, because you know... everyday laptops become smaller and replaced by Tablets, cell phones become smarter and bigger. People begin again to buy TV (instead of having the main house computer we all dreamed several years ago) ...

I really think that our future will be dead, and most people will use some Samsung or Iphone applications like "Local Shop Detector" or Twitter, Facebook groups instead of going to our websites.

Also if you notice i think Digitalpoint, a webmaster community drop down in traffic like 3 times from 2008. If i am not right... but maybe even more.

    So what's are your opinion?

Do you think that 10 years from now on, 99% of internet users will use their tv and cell phone to surf some Samsung applications and programmers, seo guys, etc will have no more work to do ?

Interesting... where exactly are you getting your metrics from?

I'd say it's safe to say that your information is less accurate than our Google Analytics data, which shows more visitors, not less (and certainly not 3x less... lol).

    1. By using Alexa tool: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/digitalpoint.com
    2. Right now i see like 5-10 members per category online but 100 ++ of guests.

etc... so you are having much more users then in 2008 ? 2005 ? Can you also put the 2009 , 2010, 2011 data?

    1. Anyone who thinks Alexa is some sort of accurate measurement of traffic is well... silly. :) Alexa numbers are relative to other sites, not an actual traffic number. It just means there are xxx number of sites with more or less traffic. So taking it as a measurement of more or less traffic would only be the case if every other site in the world had the same amount of traffic that they did in previous months/years. Of course forgetting the fact that more or less no one uses the Alexa Toolbar, so it's such a tiny sample size it's simply not going to be accurate for anything unless you are in the top 1,000... and even then it's really only accurate to gauge growth vs. sites in your same industry.

    2. Okay... and? lol

Yes, I can run data for each year, but I'm not going to... GA only allows you to compare to 1 time frame at a time and I really don't feel like compiling all sorts of data that ultimately is irrelevant to the topic anyway. But here's 2005 (which GA data starts halfway through the time period because that's when we happened to start using GA)...

Obviously growth isn't as much as we would like, but the current numbers could be ANYTHING... we could be getting 1,000,000 visitors an hour, and we still would think of ways to make that go up. In the end, traffic is going up, not down. And if you think Alexa is a better gauge of traffic than Google Analytics, you are very, very wrong.

SEO have the same demand at any time. Even, more work available in the future due to competition in the future. It is obvious according to past 4 years experience of mine. I could say this.
