As the title states, where do you guys get your 8** numbers?

I haven't looked into it extensively, but it seems there are dozens of known "providers". Do they all have access to all available numbers, or what?

I would think any phone company would have access to the same numbers. I could be wrong though... not sure why they wouldn't.

You can get a toll free number, which forwards to an existing number or you can get a PBX. A PBX is the different extensions and other options that make you appear to be a big corporation.

I use Kall8 (http://www.kall8.net). Super cheap, very reliable, and they have a nice online control panel.

I was looking into Kall8 ... I want a number that isn't listed in their SHORT list... and as a result they want to charge me $10 setup (instead of $2) and $10/month instead of $2. That ain't far and increases the cost a lot!

We use Freedom Voice. A bit more expensive but well worth it. We have been with them for about three years now

Kind of new, so does a 800 number redirect to another number?

It depends on what you get. The one that we have is a virtual office and we set up the extensions via the internet for what phone number we want it to dial and it can dial other numbers as well.

Some will come like that though - that terminates to a POTS line (to a regular phone number) and then you have to forward that number if you go out etc. Using the virtual office number just makes it a lot easier usually

Another vote for kall8.com been using them for about a year. Only thing I have noticed is that when its forwarded to a cell phone some times the call ID number is weird, it doesn't show has our 888 number. Not sure if it is a problem with kall8 or the cell provider.

For what it's worth I believe that Skype offers 800 numbers.

I don't like that they want to charge me 5x more just for me to pick a number that is available, but that I want.

Is it a vanity number? Or a repeat number the easier it is for someone to remember the higher the cost should be since it would be in higher demand.

It's it would be my name in it

High demand? I guess I really want it, but it doesn't spell anything else I could possible conceive as wanted to any degree.

From what I've found, all companies charge more if you pick the number.

Our 800 number is through the local telephone company and it's super cheap. I think I only pay $2 a month.
