DP has evolved.... No more vB....

Is this the beginning of the end of vBulletin?

How many people purchased a vB license after seeing DP using it?

How many people will no longer purchase a vB license after seeing DP using something new?

    Have you? Will you?

I'd be interested in other DP member's view on this...

I think that it will be very difficult to see the end of vBulletin. Even though I believe their sales are going down and down, they are still a very well known forum software and still used by many well known forums. I'm not a fan of it, I prefer XenForum 100x more, and I'd rather use IPB instead of it too, but vBulletin is still very strong. I always choose free options, though. :p

I never liked vBulleting very much and I don't see it often on the web.
Anyways I don't really care either since I am only using DP and WF. :)

I personally moved from vB when once XF was released. I do think admins seeing XF running on such a big site like DP will only help XF grow more.

I don't think DP leaving vBulletin will kill the brand, IB is doing a pretty good job of that themselves.

Looking at xenforo, it's really affordable compared to vB.
    Death of vB? maybe not.
Increase of XenForo sales? Highly probably.
I wonder why DP choose to switch to XenForo. I haven't see any major problem in vB.

Its probably uncomfortable for Internet Brands. But if something will seriously damage vbulletin reputation then its probably the upcoming vbulletin 5 Gold.

Technology evolves daily so therefore Vbulletin is losing a lot of ground over Xenforo. The clustered and outdated VBulletin UI is just annoying.

I don't think it will be thier end though. They can consider this a challenge to improve their software and I can see there are tons of forum still using vB.

Pretty sure the $130 I paid for vB4 isn't a huge chunk of change to vBSI... I'll probably end up buying vB5 someday too anyway...

I don't think it will be the fall of VB. I have been here for a while and I like phpbb...

I doubt that just the change of DP to Xenforo will be the death of vB. Many large forums still use it so it is not going anywhere for a while.

If you judge the success of a forum script based on what one website is using you need your head examined.

DP is no more "one website" than Microsoft is "one company". :p

I agree a slight bit here. Basically you are saying no matter what DP has a big bit of power on the success based on what they use, right? Because I believe the thousands of people on this forum at one time will think about what the Xenforo software can offer based off this forum and other larger forums that are starting to convert.

    ^^ Exactly...
I would never base a companies future on what Shawn, or anyone, is doing with his/her site. ;)
Some have said that vBulletin 5 will be the last update that IB is part of, maybe they'll sell it after they FUBAR it.

That's right. The more prominent the spot, the more likely others will imitate.
The same reason why celebrities get designer things for free. In theory, an unpaid item is a loss of revenue, but in practice - the imitation resulting pays for it many, many times over.

Precisely. Those, who were currently on the fence, are likely to be convinced having seen DP convert.

I think there was already a decline of vB way before DP moved to XF. I think after vB4 they started declining.

Nope not end of vB because folks making forum software decisions, do so based off their own respective needs. Just as Shawn has made his choices based on his own needs :D <--woah that's one ugly smiley set -->
