do you have good tips for cooking?
let me share this one: when you cut onions or garlic your hands will be smelly no matter what you do, put your hands under running water without rubbing them. you will see that your hands won't have any smell.

You're being waaaaaay too hard on yourself. I was told that you make a pretty good peanut butter and jelly sandwich.;) And your Kraft Dinner is second to none!

My Cooking Tip: After you cut the onions and garlic, add bell pepper and saute. Don't worry about the onion smell on your hands. Throw tortillas in the frying pan. Add the onions, garlic, and bell pepper, along with grated cheese. Roll them up and finish frying. I've made that twice in the last week and a half. They're very good. :)

Simply place the onions inside a sink of water. Chop them in the water and your eyes won't feel a thing.

I'm more of a baker than a cook, but I do enjoy doing both. I think everyone should learn how to cook. It's so much cheaper and healthier for you. It'll definitely impress the ladies (and men) in your life.

Here are some random cooking tips:
    • To get rid of the onion/garlic smell on your hands, rub toothpaste in your hands and wash it off.
    • Putting onions in the fridge will prevent you from crying when you start chopping. 10-15 minutes should do the trick. Breathing through your mouth while chopping also helps too.
    • When making soups/chilli/whatever, I like to make large batches because they're cheap and easy to make. I'd then freeze them in individual serving-sized containers. When they're completely frozen, I'd pop the soup blocks out of the containers and place them in plastic bags in the freezer. They only take a few minutes to reheat in the microwave and they make great light meals/sides if you don't have time to cook.
    • Beer bread is one of my favourite things to bake. If you love beer and have no experience in baking, this recipe is a great starter recipe. You can also be creative and add extra ingredients to change things up a bit. For example, I like adding grated cheese, bacon bits and chopped green onions into the dry ingredients before adding the beer.
    • Where I'm from, ounce-per-ounce, eggs are cheaper than canned tuna. I like to add 1-2 eggs for every 1 can of tuna into a tuna salad. The tuna is very rich in flavour so the eggs act as a filler.
    • Grow your own green onions! Next time you buy green onions, save at least two inches of the bottom of the stems (including the roots), and place them in a glass of water by the window. You will see them growing every day, and in about a week, they'll already be a decent length. Replace the water every few days. They're super low maintenance.
    • Invest in a high-quality knife set. Seriously. After using hand-me-down knives for years, I dropped a couple hundred on a new set and I've never looked back. They make life so much easier.
    • If you want to know the best temperature to store your fresh produce, the rule of thumb is to consider how your grocery store stores them. For example, bananas, apples, oranges, potatoes, onions, etc., are best stored at room temperature, while most delicate vegetables such as lettuce, are usually stored in the fridge.
    • Youtube is a fantastic resource. One of my favourite youtube channels for cooking tips is Chow. A lot of the videos are very short (usually a minute or less) and they also have easy recipes. Foodwishes is another favourite channel for recipes - chef John is hilarious!
Might post more if anyone's interested. I love making, eating, and talking about food. I can go on for a while. Haha
