If you're going to colocate then you should be choosing a datacenter near you so that you can access the server yourself if anything goes wrong. Most colocation companies will not take responsibility for managing or repairing your server, so if hardware breaks or the OS needs to be re-installed it's up to you to do it or to arrange it. Otherwise, in an emergency, your server could be down for an extended time.

    France: OVH (.com)
    Germany: Hetzner (.de)
    Netherlands: Leaseweb.com

All of these 3 are top-notch datacenters. Not sure if they meet your budget but maybe you can work out something with them.

Are you looking for colocation (you own a server, deliver it to the data centre and keep it there) or are you looking for a dedicated server (the datacentre/provider owns the server, puts it in the rack and rents it to you)?

    Hello there,

If you're looking to get a server delivered to the datacenter, then I would find a datacenter that you like the look of (for example, Continuum) and then contact them about colocation prices. Most datacenters are able to do better prices than they display on their website by simply contacting them. To get the server, I would find a local vendor (different depending on where you are based) and contact them with the specs you want so that they can offer you a server. Even if all the parts are not brand new, you should be able to get something within your budget.

Colocation is generally somewhere between $50 and $100 per month depending on how much power (A) the server draws and how much space (U's) it takes. The amount of space it takes will depend on how big the server is (obviously - is it a rack server?). Some datacenters like Dacentec also do RTO offers. For example, you would pay a monthly fee (say $100-150) then after 12 months you would own the server and only pay the colocation fee (say $50-75) so that could be another option for you.

You've also got to think of how you're going to get remote hands, etc. What happens if a part in the server dies? What happens if there is a kernel panic and your server is unaccessible? Most datacenters charge a half-hourly or hourly rate for remote hands (sometimes up to $70/hr). This has also got to be factored in.

Another option you have is renting the server with a deal like RTO, or simply finding a server that suits you and paying the monthly fee. Remember to consider everything before doing colocation.

I hope this helps you!! If you need anything else, then please feel free to ask me and I'd be happy to assist.

    Regards,
    Dominic

    Hello,

I do know Dacentec had some RTO Dell's. Not sure if they have any in stock, give their sales a buzz :) I've used them in the past, too.

    Regards,
    Dominic
