That quote comes from the Danish fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes" written by Hans Christian Anderson in 1837. Just download the tale and read it. I'm sure you'll not only enjoy it, but get your answer as well.

If I remember this story correctly it's about an emperor that hires tailors that end up scamming him.
Instead of sewing clothes for him (the emperor) they trick him into believing that they've made clothes that he can't see.

Long story short, since most people around him say that the clothes look amazing (even though there is nothing there) only to trick him, the emperor decides to wear it publicly; and gets embarrassed in front of the whole town.

In other words, the saying "Emperor is naked" implies that you're believing/doing something only because your surrounding is stating something that most likely is false.

I totally forgot about this! Hah! I am going to run around the house screaming "The emperor is naked!" right now and report back what happens. :)

Okay, I really did do it, and all it got was strange stares. That was an epic fail. Perhaps no one has a sense of humor in my house?

Humor has nothing to do with it. The fact is that some people just look better with their clothes on. I think the people in your house are trying to tell you something.;)

If you have done it with your trousers on, no wonder that it wasn't funny.
