What skills are needed to become a successful webmaster?

According to you what skills are needed to become a successful webmaster?

You must know internet well
You should have some knowledge of SEO
You should know HTML Basic (at least to know how to paste links)
You must know forums and how to use them
You must know the importance of article writing

 

You need to have the entrepreneurial mind set, the ability to think outside the box. If you can just do certain tasks and not come up with new ideas on your own, you can still make money online as a freelancer.

 

First and foremost (but not the only skill required) always keeping your audience in mind when making a site and content. It's one 99% people seem to forget. If you have good ideas and can make things (tools, content or whatever) that your audience wants then you'll get lots of visitors. We are here at a prime example - DigitalPoint. Not only did Shawn make available more forums as he saw the demand (the site was originally for his software), but also makes some very cool tools. He's said a few times he didn't do SEO, just made stuff. Another example is TheOatMeal.com - hilarious content and marketed very, very well, Matt Inman always kept his audience in mind. The audience is what makes you money, therefore your primary concern. GoogleBot alone won't make you anything, but unfortunately GoogleBot and the algorithm is where people often waste their time on.

 

Webmasters need:

3. Money(to start)
4. Support
5. PC
6. Internet Connection
to become a successfull webmaster.

 

I agree with the previous posts. It takes all of those things to be successful online. I would like to add one more thing - patience! So many people fail because they have none. Everyone wants an instant online presence, instant credibility, instant customer base, instant money, instant-instant-instant. We all know that it does not (usually) work that way.

One of the best skills to have when you would like to become a webmaster is the skill to keep going because it is not going to be easy and at times even frustration. You really need to dig in and keep going if you would like to make a success out of your site.

Good knowledge (Both of niche & technical)

Make sure the site is something you are passionate about maybe a hobby etc!

 

Now this is the best question for this category.
I will say, you have to be smart in every field if you really want to stay apart from others and earn money.

 

Be the master of plagiarism --- feeling smart.

Webmaster - means master of website(s)

so that, when a person will work on website(s) and trying to handle site(s), wil become a webmaster at starting level. That mean he is working on computer through internet connection. That mean these ponits:
> PC
> internet connection
are totally worthless


Money - if a person work at any SEO company and posted as a webmaster, then no need to money to create a website.


According to me, to become a successful webmaster you must achieve a clear knowledge about a website value, it's utility etc. Including:
> little bit html knowledge - will help to do on page SEO
> reaserch on kws
> research on supporting software/plugin
> getting knowledge - what will be good and bad to your website
> getting up-to-date everyday
