Does Facebook/Twitter really help your business?

Is it true that Facebook/Twitter can help your business a lot? Or is that fiction? Has it happened to you? Or did you try and it didn't work?

I think both can certainly help but you must first put in the time and effort to bring in followers/likes - otherwise it's pointless. Facebook can be a very valuable, especially Facebook advertisement, in comparison to Google they have access to a lot more personal information which means it's a lot easier to reach your target audience.

Those two social networking sites will be very useful for your business if you take time to know first the basic techniques in handling it for social media marketing. You can find blogs about Facebook and/or Twitter if you're not familiar, then you can start building a wide connection that will surely help you expand your business. It really helps, many big companies started studying first before dealing with it.

I have not used Twitter as a traffic source but Facebook is awesome if you have a big targeted fan base.I post 3 times a day to my fan page of 20000 members and they are responsive. Picture Post gets more clicks and thus increase the reach rapidly. It all depends on what niche you are working on.

Well, if it would not help then there would not be this huge amount of SMM strategies and tutorials.
It helps but depends on the product you offer or on the niche you work in. It also depends on the target and especially on the targeted country. This is more about facebook: as we all know, Fb has the EdgeRank algorithm that kind of keeps you in your location and blocks your external signals. So it is very hard to reach the abroad market and target and it takes you a lot of hard work to do so. While twitter doesn't have such limits and you may promote your product/service as far as you want.
If you can deal with these aspects and you have a unique or really useful product then your business shall grow up high with a well developed SMM strategy.

I think that Twitter does contribute to growing a business, depending on how you want to project your brand and engage with your consumers :) Twitter lives in more "real time" than Facebook, and is quicker, more instant, and is a lovely complement to the far-reaching capabilities of Facebook.

Things you can do with Twitter and not Facebook
    1. Quick shout outs about something happening right now
    2. #hashtags work better here (lots of people seem to be hating on Facebook's new #hashtag thing)
    3. Jump on trending topics and join in the fun
    4. Easily engage in conversations with consumers, @mention anyone to get a bit of their attention

I have no success with Twitter but yes Facebook is great. You can have thousands of fan in Facebook that can flow to your business page.

Another thing about twitter: it's much more possible to turn your followers in leads and conversion while facebook works better at image branding and brand maintaining.
I just learned a thing: people on facebook don't want to buy things, they just want to consume content and are more into contests for prizes.

If you have targeted visitors, then it will be helpful.. It is not always a number.. You can have 30k twitter followers and still doesn't mean you will generate traffic from it.. Quality matters..

I have 49k followers on twitter and I don't get any traffic from it. You must have followers that are interested in what you tweet to can generate traffic from it.

Both Facebook and Twitter can help you get traffic and backlinks. As long as you share quality content and interact with your fans regularly, you'll see results. Give people a reason to follow you. Try to find out where your prospects are spending their time online. The whole idea is to attract fans and followers who are interested in what you have to offer.

Agreed! I think that the probability of getting "lost" in a sea of other Twitter accounts that a consumer is following is a lot higher as well. Afterall, we're pretty much stuck with 140 characters and image URLs linking to any pictures we might have attached. Facebook has the options of images, videos, quotes and all that jazz. Acquiring followers who are interested in what you've got to say is the first step - i think the challenge is in getting them to pause to read Tweets from you, that appear in their timeline, and not having it be glazed over instead :)

I specialise in Facebook marketing and the success and profit my clients have had from Facebook ads is ridiculous. Think of the percentage of people that use Facebook.

With the right knowledge there is no way to reach your audience as quickly and cheaply as Facebook ads. I struggle to think of any business that Facebook ads wouldn't help!

If you have any more questions at all, send me a PM.

Both are great if you know how to use them. Each social network should be approached differently, but both can be extremely effective, especially if your followers/fans are natural fans and followers of your website and it's content. if they are natural, why wouldn't they be interested in something coming from a website or online business that they chose to follow or like? Definitely use both tools (and others as well, such as Google+) to your advantage. It definitely can't hurt. Good luck.

Exactly. It's fully dependent on the business and how you use/implement each platform.

Depends if you think teenagers with no money clicking on your ads is a good way to spend your ad budget if you are using FB ads and if you think seeing FB pages ranking on Google for your name and search terms is a good thing I supoose.

But I am sure there are plenty of good things to among the trees in the woods. But there are a lot of bored people clicking on there. Which reminds me I am bored so am off to click some ads on FB for a laugh...
