    Hi guys,

Hoping you can help me with the question as written in the topic title. It's important that the machine NOT be running a server OS - must be a windows XP/7 OS that I can connect to via remote desktop and control. anybody have any ideas? I've checked out VPS providers but all their computers seem to run a server OS

any advice is very much appreciated! :)

The short answer is no, unless you have your own license. The desktop OSs are generally not covered by the SPLA agreement between the hosts and Microsoft, which is why you always see server OS. Just buy your own licese, get a KVM VPS, and ask the company to install the Windows XP/7 OS for you on the VPS. Most will be happy to do it, or will allow you to do it yourself.

Unless you have your Own Licenses for these Desktop OSs, Hosts won't be able to provide you with these services.

You're welcome! Yep, if you don't have one already off an old computer or such, you should be able to pick one up for around $50. After that, you just need to have an ISO of the OS to upload to your VPS, or so the provider can do it for you. The tricky part might be finding the ISO, if you don't have an XP CD, but I'm sure they are around on the net somewhere.

KVM would be a best pick and affordable one for you.
