I would go for PHP. You have many open-sourced solutions out there, free at your disposal. If you go with PHP, you can try PrestaShop or ZenCart as easier for novice users and quite flexible in their functionality. ;)

    Hi,

As far as technology is concerned , opt for PHP instead of ASP.NET as its opensource & hosting is cheaper than Windows server.
Also you will have lot of community support as well as professional freelancers available to help you with any programming work to be done on the site.

For building an e-commerce website , I would recommend using Wordpress with Woocommerce or Wp-Commerce plugin & customize to meet your requirements , this is well proven script as many e-commerce websites have been built using it & they run successfully.

So let me know if you still need professional help & I'll be glad to do so.

When you're ready to start building your site, you might want to check out ShoppingCart.NET. It's free and open source.

    Hope this helps!

It depends on the budget if you're not a programmer howver you can buy cpanel based hosting and install opencart or wordpress. you can choose woocommerce with wordpress and there is lot of theme is available with tutorials. you can choose a paypal as basic payment gateway. If you need offline credit card then you must have webshosting with SSL preferred namecheap.

    Thanks..

This is good advice. You'll want to stick with PHP if you're doing it yourself.

Yeah, if do it yourself, always PHP, if host it - Shopify :)

Simple to make it with Opencart, or if it has >100 - using WooCommerce, and on top of that blog with that products included in posts.

    My 2 cents.

Magento is a good call, but as I've said in various places on this forum -- if you're going to go with Magento and you don't have a pretty solid amount of code and/or programming experience under your belt, you're going to want to make sure that you work with a licensed programmer. And if you are pretty decent when it comes to code-type stuff, there are a ton of forums and message boarrds where Magento developers and enthusiasts are helping each other out.

What's great about Magento, though, is that it's got a bunch of good extensions, and can integrate with a lot of the platforms that enable you to sell on multiple channels -- this is good for you because it means that your storefront can go with you, and you're never limited to selling your goods in only one place.

    Hope this helps!

if you are thinking of creating website then in that perspective php is best as it supports more flexible features which you don't find in .net or java
