Is stumbleupon any good for building traffic to my site?

I'm not sure if anybody has talked about this but is Stumbleupon really good for getting traffic for online businesses? I know it's a great way to do social bookmarking, but I wanted to know maybe if there were any stories of successes that could be shared.

 

From my personal experience, no it is not. I bought StumbleUpon views and received them very quickly, but all of the traffic was pretty much useless. People just viewed it, then moved on. Very, very few stopped for more than a few seconds to actually read the articles (which were great, IMO as a writer ), and none of them ever came back.

I guess it's the nature of the site - people click on Stumble and view random pages. Not the best way to get any kind of traffic. Twitter tweets are much better, even higher quality than Facebook shares - try that if you can find a good provider (or better yet, find people on Twitter who tweet on the topics that you need and contact them directly).

Guest posts are excellent, as well - in fact, nothing beats them if you can get your posts published on popular blogs.

 

Yeah they don't stick around. Reddit is much better, at least from my experience.

 

Oh yeah, Reddit is great for raw traffic (also great for overwhelming your server) - if you can get to the top . I never managed to do it, and those offering to do it for you charge a lot...

 

Not just raw traffic, I found the quality of visitors was better.

 

Yes StumbleUpon is very good to get traffic. But it all depend on your niche. Not everything is popular on StumbleUpon, the most popular topics are humor and support. Videos are very popular as well. There is a lot of articles that explain to you when and how you can use StumbleUpon. Sure it brings traffic but you need to know how to milk it!

 

Well, the answer to your question is yes it is good for getting traffic.

I was getting just over 19,000 visits per month just from StumbleUpon, the only issue is that the bounce rate is high as no one sticks around.

Traffic Quantity: Yes.
Good Quality Traffic: No. (Unless of course your website happens to be of interest to the person who stumbles upon it.)

 

It's not a good source of quality traffic because it all boils on how interesting your article is. And sad to say not much people in Stumbleupon have interest in some of the niches that most people market in the platform. I agree with the people above, try reddit.

 

i think stumbleupon is good sometime for traffic. and it depends upon category to category, in some category you can get good amount of traffic and in some category you get very few and bad quality traffic.

 

We can generate good traffic in stumbleupon, with more bounce rate. You can share your page with your followers in stumbleupon.

 

If you can win over the discriminating readers from reddit, then you're well on your way IMHO.

 

I totally agree with you, you must be a lucky person so that people vote your stories up! I think they are the most discriminating people on the world (Reddit user).

Agreed, my Toyota Supra article was a surprising hit.

What really sealed the deal for me was whenever they were quoting me in the comments.

 

Yes, you can sure get a lot of traffic with StumbleUpon.

...But that doesn't matter since they are not targeted.

 

The only exceptions seem to be the funny or gaming subreddits - anything remotely funny seems to get to the top :-D
