I'm thinking about getting a site with a .ca domain, what are the chances that it will be taken away because I"m from the USA?

Never tried but I wouldnt risk building a site that can be yanked away. Just seems like a bad idea.

Why do you need a .ca domain? Are you targeting a Canadian market?

You have to be a Canadian resident to register a .ca, CIRA requires it. A UK address isn't going to help.

CIRA can ask you to send proof of your Canadian residence so probably not a good idea to register it.

There are a few ways you can register a .ca domain. One is being a Canadian Citizen. Another is to have your company registered for business in Canada or by having a Canadian partner.

Another thing you can do is to initially take the .ca name and then when people go to your website forward it to the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us or .info domain. Eventually you would be able to drop the .ca name if you had to.

CIRA is big on location confirmation, I doubt any non-Canadian could easily take posession of a .ca in the first place without a partner on Canadian soil.
