Dating apps versus websites. Which one do you like better? Would you prefer to use a free dating app or a paid dating website? Is the quality that much differnt?

I think apps would be better, cause everything is mobile now. I mean, both should have, but mobile apps are more private.

Rhetoric question: Can you have a dating app without a website to support it? :(

Ok, back to your question, if I were to start a dating service now, I would do it either very local, maybe over an app (but still with a website behind to support it), get a few hundred users and then flip it to Loveme.com or some other large marriage broker.

The point with online dating is that it is an extremely competitive market on the Internet. If you are not among the top SEOs out there, it's very hard to stand out.

It is a very hard field to get into. I personally own a dating app and the development process is beyond a pain. I got the WORST developers and now i'm trying to learn HTML5 myself to fix this stupid phone gap app and the white label solutions like Boonex don't allow users to join from the app making it pointless.

If your dating website is mobile responsive, is an app really that essential?
Maybe develop an app once the website grows?

If I was in your shoes, I'd go with a website first and build a reputation, then come out with an app when people will pay attention.

Once the public demands for an app, you'll be able to spread your app like wildfire!

Yes you can. I've seen applications doing that (w/o a website that supports), but I don't know what's the true rationale behind it.

Then again, it depends on how you want to market your idea creatively.

I believe that this would depend on the audience you intend to pull in. However, if I were you, I would get into the mobile app market. I believe that there is more potential and growth in this field.

Thank you all for your advice. I have decided to go with a mobile app platform. The reason for it is because my target market has alot of dating websites and the competition for dating apps is minimal. I think it will work well with an app. Time will tell! Thanks for your feedback!

Neither seem to work for me, but mobile apps that allow you to find friends have worked for me. I turned casual meetups into dates using this method.

Apps are the way to go for sure. All companies that have websites are also getting apps. They are more user friendly. I have never used a dating website but I have tinder and love it. Hope this helps!

desktop traffic is nearly double the paying conversion rate as mobile.
on mobile, people want it free and their attention span is shorter.
desktop, people are more serious and committed.

The app does give another dimension to dating. It could be especially useful if you're going to use things like location or habits as part of your offering. You do need a website also, though. Even if it's just a landing page. Building up reputation is tough going with dating sites - agree with the comment about going local or being super-specialized.

You gotta study which country you are focusing, and what is the attitude of the user on the country before you can know website or apps will give you better response.
