Mine is one of them, sadly. Joshua and that explains why I dislike my real name and I ask them to call me by my nickname (Joshie) instead. That is for men and as goes for women, I'd say Mary or Patricia.

Maybe you're overthinking this just a bit? The name is not as common as you think it is and it's a great name. I will make sure I call you Joshua from now on on this forum. :)

When my son was born it seemed that every boy had a "J" name: Josh, Joe, James, Jayden, or Jack. My boy got a less common J name. I guess if you were in South America you would add in Jesus. I've never understood why you would call your child a name that she/he would never be able to live up to - Jesus, Christian or Mohammed - it's a huge insult to the namesake I reckon.

Maybe I am, but believe me there is too many Joshuas in this area to a point people had to start calling me Joshie so I would know which Joshua's they were referring to. I would have about 3 Joshuas staying weekends here and there a couple years ago and my family would say "Joshua" and everyone would say "me? Him? Or your Joshua?" and it became annoying. There is a lot more than 3 Joshuas in this area, I know a couple more that I don't socialize with along one person having my full first and last name that lives 30 miles away from me.

Here's a website I found that has many Joshuas in each years that is in 5 top common names at Social Security Administration in US. :p

    I agree.

My Dad was John, I am John Jr., and my son is John III. I had an Uncle John, too. My wife, Jane, has a twin brother named John so my son also has an Uncle John. There are quite a few variations on the name, John, around the world including Ian, Ivan, Jean, Joao, Juan, etc.

As far as my observation is concern,
I see MICHAEL, DAVID & JAMES are common name for men while MARY is common for women.
