    I agree with you.. you should look how to less your risk. working as freelance is not risk-free just find way to less that. ^_^

    In my opinion Odesk is better because there is more chance to get work also the system and interface is much better and easy to manage.

    Can't speak for oDesk or Freelancer, but Elance does guarantee payment. So at least you'll get paid for any work you do.
