likes? i dont like that idea....

so now i have to get 3 likes to be able to post something in competitions!!!!

I have been a member on here for years and now i cant post as I am not an established member!!!

I don't get it why every forum is trying to copy FB with the "likes", same with Namepros.

 

I agree. I guess it's just the new thing to do these days. It has its pros though, and probably cuts down on the posts that just contain "I agree" or "+1".

Well, first, you have to have 3+ likes (you do). There should be an option under the post that you want to like.

 

You will see it just below the post on the right side. Its beside the reply button on every post.

 

I thought I contributed some very succinct and useful comments through this morning (and when I first came on), and got no likes. You have a a tough crowd here

I can't speak for "every forum", however as an Admin of NamePros I can tell you the following about why we use a Like system.

• 1.) Our like system is actually in 3 parts (Like / Thank / Dislike).
• 2.) Using such a system helps cut down on post padding / post count inflation by allowing a single click of expression.
• 3.) The like system helps viewers find the meat of the content without having to sort through hundreds of "Thanks, Liked it, Nice post, Nice article, Very informative, cool idea" etc. type short 1 liner posts.
• 4.) Each Like or Thank adds reputation points to a members account.
• 5.) Each dislike adds negative reputation to a members account.
• 6.) X amount of dislikes to a post by members and it's automatically removed. (This is a way for members to self moderate content and zap spammers / scammers / trolls / etc., in the event a staff member hasn't seen it yet.)
• 7.) Member engagement in topics has tripled due to the interaction this feature offers.
• 8.) This feature provides instant visual authority / trust / or distrust, assisting viewers in staying safe and or knowing who to follow.

Not all of the Like systems are the same and may vary. The above is just the way the system works at NamePros and I think that what I've pointed out above makes it clear as to why the system is so popular with communities all over.

A little insight to help you generate likes from other members when you help them:

1.) Be thorough and provide as much detail and instruction as possible.
2.) Make sure you are providing accurate information in your reply.
3.) If you are unsure, research before attempting to reply.
4.) Make sure your reply is in your own words and not a copy / paste from somewhere else.
5.) Be respectful to the member asking the question and try not to insult them.
6.) We were all new to something once, keep that in mind when replying.
7.) If you really don't know much about the topic, don't make up stuff to help.
8.) Try to avoid short one liners and single paragraph replies.

The above are just a few tips in generating more Likes on a forum when trying to help people. Use your better judgment in most cases.

I have been a member here for years and have made many transactions echt with 100% positive feedback.

Not only have I bought, but I have also sold on this forum.

Since the whole new 'like' system was brought in I felt like I was no longer a valued member of the comunity despite my history, this has made me feel unwelcome on the forum.

I am sure many other members feel the same way. We have already jumped through one set of hoops for you and now you want us to jump through more hoops, it'sw stupid!!


Can someone with the power to do so, either give me full access to the forums or at least give me the premium membership for free for a few months?


At the end of the day I think the whole new like system is a way to get pople to pay to subscribe. You are not here for us, you are here to line your own pockets!

Here's a little tip: whiners don't get likes on DP. Beggars don't, either. In fact, they tend to get banned when they act this way.
