How to outsource the development of a website?

I was wondering if some of you have had experience with outsourcing the development of a website. Specifically, how did this go with parties you agreed to go with, you met on the internet. There are those forums where you may propose a job, and others responding on this.

As an additional question, I would like to know whether there are folks who have done this with a non-english website, and how this proceeded. I can imagine that building a, say, dutch website, is much harder to build for Indian Designers, than it is for natives.

Oh, and what are the experiences considering the price of your projects. Did the price differ from country to country? Which site would you recommend for this?

 

Get references. Call those references. If you cannot - email them. And then get a few of them. Make sure the IP is not the same as the person who are hiring.

There are a lot of sites out there (including this one) but check out devshed.com if it is some type of programing, maybe sitepoint for design. Heck I met a fantastic .NET guy on Craig's List a couple of years ago.

 

I would only work with someone in my own country. Why? Because if a legal issue arose, then I would want to have a chance at having my day in court so to speak.

Get references, check their current work, and find someone who has invested in their career. Lots of people are "web developers" by name only. Can your person really get the job done and within the time stipulated by you?

I would recommand you to use elance (www.elance.com). Its an ebay-like site, honnest and you will find everything you need there.
