I know that blogger has a reputation for banning blogs without any warning but can they still ban you if you are using a custom domain?

Yes, but it's highly unlikely if you're not doing anything wrong. Don't let these people scare you, I have been using Blogger to manage a blog for over 6 years, and my blog is still up and doing fine.

Absolutely. Moreover, if it is a spam blog, then the question is not if they can ban it or not. It is just how soon they will ban it. Once banned, there is no way to restore the blog or prove that it wasn't violating the rules (even if it wasn't).

If you dont follow blogger rules then they will definitely ban your blog,, whether you use free subdomain or custom domain... it doesn't matter.. you must follow their terms and conditions..
