What's The Poorest English Sentence You Have Ever Read

I was wondering whether some of you ever get to laugh when they read the worst of English phrases or sentences or just about anything really. Could you share some?

 

.......anything written by @write.subhajit, I have to laugh at the way he destroys my native language.

 

I do not intend to mock of Indians, but most of the threads, replies and even PMs I got on this forum were so awful I did not even think such level of idiocy can exist. Most of Indians speak English with same fluency and efficacy as a biker, trying do drive a truck.

 

A greek passerby had something to say, he understood I was a foreginer, so he faced me and I asked him "What is it?"
He replies:
-aaa (supposedly I) (a brief awkawrd "failure to express") then he pursued by:... for to running. (then "completed" the sentence by gesturing.)
To this day I have sincerely no clue what he meant to say.

Until I can speak another language I consciously refrain from mocking or judging another person attempting to speak my native tongue.

 

Well if the sentence is by someone who doesn't natively speak English its understandable. Especially considering that English is actually the hardest of ALL languages in the world to learn and to speak.

It's the only language where so many words sound the same and also even are spelled the same yet have different meanings.

pray/prey
praise/prays/preys
pair/pare/pear eg

They're known as "Homonyms" or "Homophones" and the English language has more than any other.

Subhajit, you made like 5 mistakes in 3 lines of text, not to mention horrible grammar structure. How do you expect us to treat you?

Chinese language is actually the hardest, as meaning of the word changes completely depending on the symbol order, not to mention hundreds of dialects and sub-languages.

Back 22 years ago, when I first started speaking English, somehow, I assumed that the word success should be pronounced as SEX-cess with the emphasis on the first syllable. I got some laughs, until some native speaker pointed it out to me. I was like: Embarrassing!

 

I don't know where you got that from but the English language is definitely the hardest of all languages to learn because of all the homophones.

The other reason why English is known for being difficult is because it’s full of contradictions. There are innumerable examples of conundrums such as:

• There is no ham in hamburger.
• Neither is there any apple nor pine in pineapple.
• If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught?
• If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
• “Overlook” and “oversee” have opposite meanings, while “look” and “see” mean the same thing.

As I said, English is full of homophones – words that sound the same but have different meanings or spellings.

Homophones exist in the English language that has no fewer than seven different meanings – namely words that sound like ‘course’ and ‘raise’. Most have only two or three meanings – such as “there”, “their” and “they’re” – but that’s still enough to add an extra level or two of complexity for those trying to master the English language.

I do not doubt your words. You are absolutely right. Now take all this complexity, multiply it by 10 and you will get a slight understanding what learning Chinese languages looks like.

it sounds like "do not won't" which is a double negation, which causes cognitive dissonance and leads to head explosion and ultimate death of the Universe in blood and carnage.

Seriously, kids learn to tell when you hear "want" and when it is "won't" in about 2 year os studying English. And in writing it is even more clear.
