Does anyone actually enjoy pancakes?

Pancakes are kind of the American staple breakfast food. I even made some this morning with some chocolate sent to me from my mom in Japan. I rarely ever make pancakes, but when I do, I always wonder why I do. I've never particularly cared for them. As my roommates and I sat around the table and ate our breakfast, we realized that no one at this table actually cares for pancakes. We couldn't even really think of anyone we know personally who actually likes pancakes.

Is there anyone here who actually likes pancakes? Craves them? Must have them?

    I'm interested to know.

I enjoy pancakes, but only if they have maple syrup on them.

    You're making them wrong.

Pancakes are WONDERFUL if they are made correctly and are soaking in melted butter when you eat them. No need for any other topping for me.

By the way, you should post some of your favorite breakfasts (or other foods) from Japan on the DP thread in my signature!

By themselves pancakes mean very little to me. Add bacon, over easy eggs next to them and syrup on top - now you're talking.

I like mixing chocolate chips into the batter before cooking them - amazing!

My son absolutely prefers chocolate chip pancakes. Me, not so much, despite my love of chocolate. :) My preference would be plain or with blueberries in the batter. I also like banana pancakes (bananas mashed and mixed in the batter.) But plain, buttermilk pancakes swimming in melted butter is my preferred way to eat them.

I have never had banana pancakes before, sounds delicious.

I do love blueberry as well, and plain old butter and maple syrup is awesome too.

Pancakes are very versatile and you can probably mix thousands of toppings into the batter.

I love pancakes :) Over here we often have two different kinds - the thick 'American' style and the thin 'crepe' style. The thicker ones are perfect when drizzled in butter and served with a poached egg. The thin ones are best with a sprinkling of sugar and lemon juice.

I've also made savoury ones which I used to wrap chicken and broccoli in and cover in cheese sauce before baking. :D

I have always wanted to try crepes.

I watched a trick once where the chef turned the pan upside down and cooked the crepe on the bottom to insure the correct thickness.

Not sure if that would work or not - but I would love to try them sometime.

That sounds like a unique technique! Would probably work though :)

My grandmother used to make crepes. She would spend the morning stacking them up for 10 or more family members who would come around because they knew that it was "crepes" day. She just called them pancakes, but they were actually crepes. Brings back fond memories.

See, I love crepes. Back when I was living in Japan as a kid my aunt would take me after school to the supermarket and there would be this ice cream shop there that had crepes. Best. Crepes. Ever. Good memories.

When on a low carb diet even mentioning pancakes will have my mouth watering.

Fo' shizzle. I'm not only from Japan, but I'm also from a tiny island off the coast of Japan called Okinawa which is such a different world compared to mainland. I've got some awesome Japanese & Okinawan dishes that I could share. Sounds exciting!

Mhmmm. I've been doing a slow-carb diet (by Tim Ferriss). I absolutely love the diet and what it has done for my health, but let me tell you, I cannot wait for cheat days. When Tuesday rolls around I gorge on all that is bad, unhealthy and mouth wateringly delicious.

I've never thought to try that. I'll have to give it a shot. I'd probably destroy our stove the first couple times and create a huge mess, but I bet it would be worth it.

Pancakes are awesome! Crepes are even better. Especially if they are drowning in butter. I always think they're a pain to make, but they are easier to make than they seem.

    Does anyone like popovers?
