Upwork has gone bonkers! They have raised their fee from 10% to 20% for contracts that are $500 or less!!

First it was the stupid connects system with only 30 free job applications per month- now they raise the fee to 20%- What a monstrous loss.

    Man I am Unhappy! :(

    Time to head to Freelancer.com.

Freelancer is crap cos most jobs have dirt low budgets, overrun by Indians and the Basic memberships gives you only 10 connects per month. Useless.

Upwork was the only nice site on the internet where i could find a job i can work from home and make some nice income. After i got the mail few days ago i was so disappointed because from June i won't be using upwork anymore. The one and only reason is: The fee is just too much, i can't allow few days of my hard work to give to some site that doesn't do anything, just makes sure to get paid. So i think that many other freelancers would quit working on upwork and they will see that the new policy is just to much. Everyone wants to make money but this is a classic example of a rip off. The fees in the past were great, both for the freelancer and the employer and now there will be some new fees for the employers too, so i think that many companies will search for a new site where they will pay some smaller fee to get their job done.

Why not use Upwork to find clients and then ask them to pay you via PayPal or Payoneer? Simple.

It is hard to get work on Freelancer or Upwork unless you have many reviews so it is not suitable for newbies.

Thanks for your response. I thought about Freelancer but when I talked with other freelancers who are working on Freelancer.com, I found that it is worse.

well, that is a nice plan but the problem with that plan is the protection you get from upwork or other sites like that. If you do the job and you are not paid you can contact upwork and they will do something about it. But, this way you will do your job and maybe someone will not pay you and how and to whom you will prove that you have been played. Also, there are many hourly paid jobs on upwork, that are the main part of the income, because you earn for example 7-8 dollars an hour and you work on a project a whole week for 100 dollars, and if you use upwork just to find clients you won't be able to work on projects like these or you should search for a new way to prove to your employer that the money paid to you are not wasted.
