Well, if i visited your website to do a anonymous surf, i wouldn't be interested in going to other sites offering the exact same service... or a surf school in costa rica for that matter.

I guess placing a google ad on the top with the surf "bar" would get you some clicks. But i guess that would be alittle ironic if they clicked the "no ads" option...

Or making your ads more visible and interesting. Maybe you should even be looking for advertising elsewhere than google.

    Here's my two cents...

Try removing the large images and replacing them with some text about what a proxy is, does, why people need proxies, etc. Then use a 728x15 link group underneath. The link group looks more like a navigation bar, and in my experience is more likely to get clicks, as people don't instantly recognize it as an ad. Remember most surfers are "banner blind" so if they can determine immediately that a certain block is an advertisement, they no longer see it and are not likely to click on it.

Related is good. However, you want to get rid of the sites offering the same service that you do(competion), offering proxy search that is. And you want to get rid of the sites that are nothing close to related (like the surf rica costa link).
Do this by black listing the sites in google adsense.
Keep an eye on your links, and make sure to update your black list now and then.

Try what mike said, think that might work for you

As privacy service are used by expert users who naturally dont hits ads unless they are very very interesting..so it will give u lesser click than a normal site where new internet users comes regularly.

I figured that.. but if that is the case, then how are some users here on the boards making $30 a day on their proxy sites if not one wants to click ads on a proxy site?

That's the main problem with proxy sites - they generate extremely low CTRs, and there's not much that can be done. Most people don't even bother looking at the ads because they're just interested in going to a particular site.

Also, and I'm not sure if it's the same with other schools, but all the computers at my school have blocked ads, so we cannot see Adsense ads or any other ads, which might be part of the problem.

Instead of having the proxy form on the main page, I would write up an article about how bad it is to surf without a proxy, with ads on the page. Then have a not so obvious link somewhere on the page leading to a second page where the surf form is.

I think a rectangular ad block in the middle would look good, with some content round the outside, or underneath. Worked for me ;)

I will definatly experiment with it a little bit. I got 3 adsense hits yesterday. AWFUL $ from them, but i will play around with it and see what happens. Also might get an article written for it.

    ok...

i changed the color of the ads.. personally i think they stand out SO much more. Any opinions?

Also, i changed the meta tags, title, alt text, etc to say nothing about proxy's . . I targeted the adsense ad's more towards myspace in hopes that i will get higher paying, more targeted ads that people will want to click. .. any other suggestions?

I think I feel slightly more aroused by those colours; in the fact I would prefer to click on them, and not anything else. Except, I feel they are slightly overpowered by the images slightly.

If you are confident in your placement..I'd try changing up the colors a bit and see if that helps.

To be honest, I don't see why people would click on ads on a proxy. I always felt ads that were triggered by content would lead to clicks after people have read part or all of the content on a page. People use a proxy to search and do not really ahve a reason to click.
