What are the Value of Good Looking E-Commerce Product Photos?

    Dear members,

Greetings! Hope all are well. Recently, I'm researching on every sector of an e-commerce business. Such as product price, product quality, product photos, descriptions, delivery time, customer support etc. I know all these points are valuable for an eCommerce business.

But, I found that most of the business owners are lacking about the product photos. I think the product photos are the main showcase to catch the targeted buyers. So, we should give priority to the product photo sector to display eye-catching product photos.

What are you thinking about it? Is it significant for an e-commerce business? Share your opinion.

Photos are the bane and the boon of ecommerce stores. These things often make or break your business.
Make sure to only use high-quality photos. If possible, take the photos yourself, or have some professional photographer do it for you. Don't use stock photos, and please, don't use generic AliExpress/AliBaba photos for the products.
A high quality, real life photo will resonate with your potential customers and will help them make the purchasing decision.

We also spent countless of time on testing so many things to optimize our Shopify store and the huge thing that we found is… product video presentation is really key… we boosted engagement and conversion rate up to 100% solidly by making our product presentation video unique from other competitors (using fully interactive video avatar)

It’s a great topic. I was working on research about the impact of it on conversions and sales.

What I understood for sure is that today it's not enough to showcase products with a simple description and color option.

    Clients are more sophisticated.
And the job is to keep them craving for more with EXCELLENT product visuals.

I also talked to Blue Hamel, the Social Content Producer at Ogilvy & Mather and learned a lot about visual trends in Ecommerce. Here are the main takeaways:
    - Use animation. “Animation attracts the consumer because it brings a story to life.” Telling and showing a story surely will make ethe store stand out in the market.
    - Use 360° Product View. Btw, experimenting with 360° product views brought Golfsmith.com an increase in conversion rates that was at least 10 percent – and for some products up to 40 percent more conversions.
Leverage video content. Cathy McManus, the Stacksandstacks marketing director says that shoppers are 144% more likely to add a product to their cart if they’ve watched the product video than if they haven’t. The types of visuals:
    - Instructional videos
    - Catwalks

    - Hacks for product photos. Some of them may seem obvious.
    - Always use large images. FYI, Skinner Auctions tested whether increasing the size of their product images from 250 pixels to 350 pixels wide would increase conversion rates.Their results were astonishing with 63% more of visitors starting the bidding process and a huge 329% more visitors completing all the forms necessary to make a bid.
    - Use images with high-resolution. Your visitors zoom into your product to see fabric structure and fine details. Make sure the images aren’t blurry or pixelated. They are HUGE NO-NO.
    - Make it clear. Is it clear from the photo what you sell? You sell a product first, not a photo composition. You can attach an additional photo to show the atmosphere, but it shouldn’t be the one and only.
    - Product carousels. Why not take three to five photos of a product from different angles, or close-ups of certain features, and upload them as part of a series behind your awesome hero photo? This will enhance your visitors viewing experience compared to using only one photo.
    - Background consistency. The rule of product image backgrounds is that the background should not conflict with or distract the viewer from the product. It seems to be clear. But what is often neglected is a common picture of your product collection.

In case you need visual examples and more useful stats, you can get them by following this link: https://en.promorepublic.com/blog/boost-sales-ecommerce-product-visuals/
All the tips I wrote above is formed into a blog post here.

    Hope it helps!
