Cons are many, like legal problems, keeping spam in check, maintaining and optimizing databases and queries for faster performance, paying for servers needed etc.

Pro is just one I guess, huge bank account!

Both the pros and cons will multiply significantly as numbers of users grow on your social network.

Some of the pros will obviously be getting recognition and facilitation of the users. Cons would involve Data privacy, avoiding errors and spams, constantly having to optimize the customer experience, and more.

    Where to start?
    • people posting copyright material or using your site to link to copyright material
    • people pretending to be someone else and posting objectionable material
    • people pretending to be someone else and posting ok material
    • people posting hate speech
    • people posting illegal content - https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national...aring-of-video-of-christchurch-terror-attacks
    • people posting something and deciding they want it taken down but your mods think it should stay up

    I think that means "fame"

Any website can get into legal troubles. Sometimes things can be resolved by simply removing some objectionable content, other times you can end up in courts.
A lot depends on how strong your "terms of use" document is and what the ccase is.
Worst of these would be someone using your website to plan a terror attack, and police finding about it, then coming to you for explanations.
Female abuse is another major problem.

15 years back, in my country there used to be a popular online shopping website, was very popular.
Some idiot took naked pictures of his girlfriend and auctioned them on this website.
Girl launched a police complaint, website got shut down, CEO jailed.
Back then the "terms of use" document was not seen as a valid document in my country by courts. So the argument given by CEO lawyers that all users are responsible for their own content, did not worked.

So many such cases happen everyday, people stealing photographs from online profiles (using them in porno and blackmailing the user), stealing identity (will create account using someone elses name and photo, and will cheat others), abusing female users online (probably the biggest mess), and what not...

Sometimes children open accounts, get scammed or cheated, and then parents come after you.

Data privacy is where you posted some info on the website about yourself while creating profile, or uploaded photographs.
Website got scraped, and a lot of all that info got stolen and misused.
Facebook got into this trouble some 2 years back.
A human profiling company got a lot of user data from fb, categorized it based on preference, and sold it to another company for political campaign targeting.
I think the case is still open.

Yes, a lot of people on facebook do that and worse things.
Most people are sober, but there is a huge gang of trolls who will leave no stone unturned to create chaos, specially if supported by a political party.
They feel very safe behind their computer screens, and will say anything with no care about decency...

totally. They started when the internet was pretty wild but times have changed and legislation has caught up. Nowadays they have teams of legal staff.

Have you added that to your budgeted expenses?
