Content is the king besides backlinks are the important part of SEO. My confusion is what is considered most significant creating content or building backlinks? Expert opinion, please

One backlink from a high ranking relevant site is probably worth far more than hundreds if not thousands of backlinks that are not relevant or from poor ranking websites.
With that in mind, provide good unique, and value orientated content which your audience and passing organic traffic will enjoy (who would want to come back for more).

You only have so much time in a day, and you need to get as much content published as possible to compete these days. Make sure you're putting out a ton of high quality content, always aim for 1k+ words and make sure to cover every aspect of the topic possible so you have the best article on whatever subject it is you're writing about. Make it so Google wants to put your site on the first page. Make it so they have to.

Link articles on your site to each other as frequently as possible. Doing this will help your posts rank better, trust me on this. It's worked for me more times than I can count.

 

I would rather spend 4 hours writing something awesome or editing existing content than wasting it on building links. Let me put it in simple terms if the link is easy to get then it has no value.
