How to find a choose a good link building service?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by LunaGraphica, Oct 13, 2023.

I'm looking for an effective white-label link building service for ongoing work?

I've worked with a couple of the big names in the past, and I have not been impressed.

I get tons of spam messages promoting link-building services, mostly from very suspect addresses.

Does anyone have thoughts on how to find, evaluate, and choose a link-building service?

On sites like Linkedin, Facebook or BHW you will get mostly spammy backlinks. If you turn to individual experts on Upwork for example, there is a better chance that you will get backlinks of higher quality. But there is a question of page indexing. Not all individuals index it, which means that you will get 50% of the result that makes no sense for your site. So it is better to google for companies and apply directly to their website. Another issue is the price per link from such companies. Basically it is a very high price, but for this price you get 100% quality work and a guarantee of removal.

Finding a reliable white-label link-building service can be tricky due to spammy promotions. To choose the right one, consider seeking recommendations from trusted sources in your industry or online communities. Evaluate potential services by examining their track record, client reviews, and case studies. Look for transparent communication, ethical practices, and a focus on building quality, relevant links. Test their responsiveness and expertise during initial interactions to gauge their commitment. By prioritizing legitimacy and performance, you can identify a link-building service that aligns with your ongoing needs and delivers tangible results.

Why?, you're answers need much more depth saying exactly why something will work - don't do what every other bugger does without proof of why it works.

I can tell you that hoping for high quality links doesn't work, why? well it's stupid simple - most side hustles (I believe that's what's going to be promoted when folk want 'advice') are too low-level, the websites are of low-level/quality, even thinking running them as side hustles is doomed to failure, then you got the problem of convincing these authority/mega sites to just hand over a link to you. Do you know about how link bargaining actually works? what happens is the linking sites will ask a quality, mega site direct or a freelancer SEO bod to do the approach to ask sites to consider giving up their prized space in exchange for lower, insignificant space in return. The problem is when both sites don't and never have equal traffic to share, and is 97% the case, means rejections will happen. Also such lower sites involvement is just a bad idea due to being devoid of content depth and thus zero worth as their just not in a position to 'ask' as they have no traffic power yet.

So you really think some SEO freelancer will think about these things - No, they will not, what they will do is take your money and spam you to any open form they can, forget quality, as this requires skilled negotiation and a great traffic offering on both sides and sole trader/side hustle sites wont have the traffic offering, thus a deal won't happen period.

People live in a dream world and get so wrapped up in their silly content-less blog efforts or whatever, they think their 2000 visitors a year creation is going to impress a 1 million a year portal - it's so stupid, it's not funny, it's stupid thinking.

This is exactly what I'm talking about - forum space is great for educating others into doing the right thing or to follow the correct path. Different sites accomplish different things, some are great for driving traffic, others not so good. Think about displaying your work/skill, instead of verbal persuasion or spamming.

When picking a link-building service, make sure they're clear and honest about how they work, how much they charge, and how they report progress. They should be easy to reach and give you updates regularly. Transparency is super important.

99% of backlink "providers" are trash, as is offering forum, profile and web 2.0 links.

Create shareable content in your niche that will attract backlinks naturally. Use real data for content, case studies, create a survey to gather your own data. Ideally you want to merge your niche with a trending topic for best results. Ex. Work from home niche during the 2020 Lockdowns. New Year (Jan) is big for dieting/workout niches. A new regulation or technology in your niche.

Signup for HARO (connectively.us) and pitch to Journalist for your niche topics. This can land very good links.

Did I not make a post about the many contracts you'll end up being entered into, by using stupid link services. It's too risky, so an SEO freelancer, signs you up to a second contract where the publishing site charges £500 for it's link space - you can be taken to Court and sued for that money, jeeze, I've sued people for doing exactly that. Too risky.

Agree that many companies are trash. But good companies will cost you a lot. My point is that you need to be ready to pay a high upfront cost for high-quality backlinks. The rest will be trash, as other users say.

Many providers of this service cut corners and/or promise more than they can deliver. Asking a lot of specific questions upfront could help, for example asking for their case studies or how they handle reporting, what are the criteria for the domains they pick... Your best chance is word of mouth, I dare to say. If you personally know someone from your industry who hired an agency/professional and was happy with the results.

Point is that SEO freelancers shouldn't be used at all for the following reasons:

    1. They lie about their capabilities.
    2. They look to upsell beyond the client's wants.
    3. They won't inform clients of exact link placement.
    4. Many insist on video chat only eg: stupid as many clients don't possess web cameras.
    5. Their fees are inflated, and the repeat 'maintenance fees' are a con.
    6. Their claims to know what 'Google is doing' is laughable, and their not telling you anything you can't find out yourself.
    7. Their ridiculous services are not required - link approaching is easy, time consuming - yes, but will save you a ton of cash as you cut out the middleman.
    8. They create legal problems for their own clients.
    9. They often promise everything eg: "We'll work with you" etc - then do a complete 180, and refuse client needs to fit their agenda.
    10. They can never provide any web traffic stats from the publishing sites, which is quite an important thing I'd have thought - knowing what traffic to expect from all that form filling they promised.

Forget the reporting bs - you'll never get on anything decent - as their weblink lists are crap. That's the issue, too expensive and lack of quality, none of which will be proven to the client, well, at least not before fees are handed over, and I doubt it even then and/or it's too late as you've done your money, or the initial dialogue never reaches the contract stage.

But I guess so many clients just don't do thorough assessments before signing up and they get ripped off - well getting ripped off is what it's about, there are a lot of stupid people with too much money to spend.

Okay, let's skip the part about the freelancers.
What about reputable companies? Yes, they do charge much more compared to single freelancers. But they can bring some results.
There was one story when my friend wanted to open a website for his business, and he found one freelancerfreelancer girl who was providing SEO services + web design. The price was very attractive, but her SEO work wasn't the best one. To fix all her mistakes and to gain traffic from that side, hence attracting some customers, he hired an SEO company. They charged much more for their services, and it took them longer, but they brought the desired result.

The entire SEO sector is an illusion because you can do this yourself for free. Free, let me cover what this means:

SEO whether trusted or not will charge fortunes for very basic services, except the cash you just handed over is actually a giant waste. The sector is full of form fillers, that's right, and the rest may have relationships or a list they work from, but it will be low level junk links that carry no weight, traction or status for your site - so totally worthless in traffic delivery, You can build a list and personally search for targeted sites that aren't junk, contact them to get a feel for correct pricing and save yourself shelling out on extra fees period. Forget all this 'trusted nonsense' - it's a waste of money, unless every site owner on earth is so busy they cannot find a few hours a week to do some link space searching, and I don't believe anyone is that tied down.....

    1. Build a link profile eg: 200 links
    2. Build content - masses of it eg: 500 pages per year, until you reach 5000 pages.
    3. Now seek out targeted paid link space on significant and/or niche sites. These will power drive specific buyers to your business.

As you see above, I shared a story about a friend who hired a freelancer girl to build a website for him and did some SEO. The point is that she did everything by herself. Of course, it's possible to do everything alone, no doubt. Indeed, it will save you a lot of cash. But she made things even worse. That's why my friend turned to an SEO company that charged him much more for their services, and it took them a while to bring the desired result.

Using agencies is always a bad idea, unless you have cash to burn (most don't), but SEO is not a legit or regulated sector, so anyone can do it, heck, I could set myself up as an SEO as I hold a level 3 in Digital Marketing, but my point is the insane searching to find some 'SEO star' is difficult and you'll go through a few hundred SEO'ers until you find that star, not worth the hassle in my very informed experience.

When I began doing this web thing, I didn't know anything, nothing, but I studied what others were doing and over the months a picture built up of the basics and what needed to be done, but honestly, I didn't really learn my stuff until I owned a website, and this is how you learn - by 'doing' and getting experience. it really is the only way to save money and not get ripped off, plus, it gave me a shed load of knowledge that few possess.

Can you hire an 'expert', sure, but you'll pay through the nose for it and it really isn't worth it - hiring an SEO is not like hiring a PR agency, PR Consultants do have Degrees, and that's how you are assured of getting quality, but you know what, I used a PR agency, they were good, got me some results, but in hindsight, should have just done it myself and saved the £3k in fees. I'm sure many SEO's possess Diplomas in digital marketing/SEO, so it comes down to a few questions - do you trust them, what qualifies them and how do they prove results - and I bet most can't prove results to a good level eg: they got ABC Ltd 10'000 links. Using an agency or doing it yourself makes no difference to the result, what you're paying for is incredible talent and ability to 'spam a form' - NOT expertise as you're dealing with kids working from their bedrooms - so whoever whatever the method used, you still have to wait months to see the low level results, why so low? - well, it's all that's on offer, as any site worth it's salt, isn't giving up it's web space to a bunch of wannabes with their 50 page blog, copied 50'000 times by everyone else all doing the same thing, that's a bit better designed than the guy next door, and the giant fact that 600M blogs exist, with only 3% 'making it' is proof enough.

You have a good point. But what about the time you spend on doing SEO? Well, of course, you can do everything by yourself, but it takes time.
Personally, I'd prefer to pay an organization that has all the resources and people who can do everything while I can focus on my core business and just outsource this work and leave it in good hands. Of course, to find a star, I'll ask for some recommendations from the people I trust. Maybe I'll double-check some info online and ask on forums.

The time, why are people worried about that, you are saving lots of cash and these SEO 'experts' won't get you better results you know, or what, do you think they have insider knowledge of all these blogs or something, there's no way. Before I disconnected my business line, I had calls from other business people asking me for help with SEO, actually most of them were wasting £800 - £2000 a time on SEO etc using these ridiculous agencies and all the clients got was a bunch of untargeted links on worthless blogs - I know because I spoke to a ton of people and personally checked out the sites.

I have done considerable research into the SEO sector and found it to be trouble, some of it may 'work' but only for a limited time until listings are knocked down by other companies all doing the same thing. SEO is a never ending, cash burning activity, that wastes more money in agency fees than anything else - Here's why it burns so much - the first page rankings for keywords in my business are too competitive the top results include corporations, news agencies and other unbeatable websites, even my website, cannot beat certain mega sites by giving me top 10 spots, so I and others rely on pure traffic methods instead -which are natural links eg: one-way, PR and some other techniques that only certain websites get away with.

Most sites are sole traders, so they don't have the 'pull' like pure b2b info sites or guides etc do have, thus they can't attract the same traffic flow eg: they don't have the size in content or traffic - you see there's too many little sites that convince themselves they can beat the likes of 1M traffic portals, all they really need is some SEO and because that will display them for a while, then it must guarantee that traffic finds them and visits, then interaction, which means sales and it's all going to happen. Ok, running a website is exciting, hypnotic even - I get it, but fantasy kills, and it's real, not a game and damn tough extracting money out of people, but let's say you're going to try it anyway.

Here's what I would do with a say a blog:

    1. Ensure the idea is original/unique or at least different content to other copied blogs. You need to ask 'why should they use you' over the other millions out there.
    2. Get content to 5000 pages
    3. Do on-site SEO, using a Content Management System (CSM)
    4. Approach smaller, targeted sites and offer link exchanges. (don't expect too much).
    5. Once your blog is established eg: 10k visitors per month, promote via Youtube ONLY (for now).

Do NOT buy PPC adverts - the site will not be ready for that yet.

    6. Approach businesses and sell the advert space to bring in revenue.

This is important - if you cannot generate revenue within 2 years, fold the idea totally, get off the web and find something more productive to do.

All the steps you've described below are time-consuming. Some business owners don't have time to do all this, even if they want to, but it's humanly impossible. So, what should they do? Postpone the idea of developing their website and doing SEO for it?
