Stick with the winners in business and life?

One View: Everybody (even a street bum) has value and potential. We should not be overly judgemental or too quick to
think of other people as 'losers'.

The Other View: "Stick with the winners (every day, and in every way)." People with negative attitudes and low self-esteem are 'toxic'
    and need to be avoided.

Some leading 'experts and gurus' give the first 'bits of wisdom', and others are in the second camp. You can not have it both ways, or can you?
What do you advise, from personal experience?

Stick with the winners, and here's what I mean:

You can be a winner based on your attitude. To be a winner, you don't have to be from a certain social, economical, or intellectual level.

What I've noticed is that everyone that is on top end up on the bottom at some time also. Or has come from there. It's rare that people are always winners.

It all depends on what you value in life and if you feel that success and money are the only measures of ones worth. In the end, you can't take any of it with you. And it always ends. Even for the "winners".

I heard one well off individual once say that if you want to be successful, hang around rich people and pretty women.

So do you "size people up" at the start, and get away fast if they are "negative or losers?"

I voted for the third choice.

In the UK at the moment we have a program called 'The Secret Millionaire'. Basically millionaires go and live in a poor area of Britain for a few weeks to get a taste of life, if they meet people who they believe deserve a lot more (e.g. charity that keeps kids of the streets but has very little funding) then they give some of their own money to them.

The program definitely highlights that even these business owning millionaires can learn and appreciate people from all walks of life.

I agreed with more than 1 choice. Yes a street bum does have value and potential. But I also think to be successful in business its good to stay away from "toxic" places as well. I also think you can learn from and help everyone. You can learn from the mistakes the "toxic" people / companies. For example, WorldCom or Enron. So I guess I agree with all 3 choices.

If you have a choice stick with the winners. Depending what your definition of a "winner" is. In my books, I only want to have people as close friends and associates that I trust in a large way. Others are too evil...

i would say do something you are very much interested and keen in, its not necessary to stick to what some one else has done before, every one have their own sucess story

I believe in balance. It seems to be really stuck up and cocky if you only converse with rich "winners". If less fortunate person asked me for help with something, I would definitely help.

Having money doesn't make you successful.

I like the variety of answers.
My heart says, "everybody has value", but "stick with the winners" also has life-long advantages.
When I can more afford to, I plan to help street people who 'show some signs' that my help will make a real difference. :)

    I second that.

The word "winner" in the poll might suggest that the other option is stick with "losers", while I think that everybody is important, it won't do good to stick with negative people. I wouldn't say that they are "winners". I would say they are "positive" persons rather than "negative" and if I have to choose from those two, I stick with positive people.

    That's why I'm here ;)

I try to learn from EVERYONE I meet. That's why there'll be no such thing as a "bum" in my book. Everyone has VALUE and has a lesson to teach (even if it involves WHAT NOT TO DO or WHAT NOT to believe).
