need help in getting my head around cms

Hi

I have made a basic html site and already added content etc. I want to install a good free cms system. I have installed mambo through my cpanel but need to work out how to do the next stage to get it working, can any body help me?

 

mambo is quite complicated. you might be better of trying something simpler like lucidcms or drupal.

the first step for any of them is to create a theme. most cms websites will have manuals on how to do it and i would advise reading them.

 

yea drupal is simple ,you go for joomla or xoops too

 

What do you need help for? I've been using Mambo and Joomla for last 3,5-4 years now.

 

really before you can be advised as to what you want,,
it is important to know what you NEED..
are you looking to just do basic blogging or are you going to be doing article publishing and other types of things.
Exactly what kind of Content do you need to manage.
There is a trade off..
take something simple,, learn it,, then find out you want more,
then have to migrate all your content over to a more powerful CMS and then learn that one. Sometimes it actually is better to look into the more powerful one and have a slightly steeper learning curve.
Pick a CMS that not only is free,, but most importantly where and how are you going to get support and help for it.

go to the different CMS site drupal joomla b2evolution etc..
what kind of support can you find, are there forums, if you find a forum what is the user base IE: how many people are there.. is there lots of messages with lots of answers.. or are alot unanswered.
Look at their "sample/customer/example" sites,, do you like what you see?

finally,, what kind of developer work is going on,, is there alot of people working on addons/templates/components etc...

or to make it all easy,, give microsoft a check for $50,000.00 dollars for a license for one computer for their CMS.. Hahahahhahahahahahhahaha

I've never used cPanel, but IMO wordpress is very easy to use. www.wordpress.org

 

Yes,i agree, wordpress is INCREDIBLY easy,,
It also performs probably the best of all for blogging (though joomla is running and making alot of ground on it )
it's also not nearly as extendable. Performs exceptional as a blog.. not very well at content management.
So again,, depends on what you want to do.

 

I am really trying to crack the very best way to offer my clients cms for their sites so they can do what ever, I have had a look on my servers and the cms available is

which are the better ones?

 

What are your needs? And what is you background, do you know anything about those CMS systems?

It is a lot easier to recommend something if you tell us you needs.
