Outsourcing software project

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Nestrer, Jan 25, 2007.

I wanna outsourcing a software project at http://www.getacoder.com/
But I am new to that with some question:
    1. Will they transfer full copyright of the software?
    2. Will they fix all bugs in the software without charge more?
    3. Should I make a online escrow for the deal?
    4. What to do if I get the software not as expected?
    5. Any other advice?

Or should I go with a fixed company?

    Thanks

Pay in payments. I usually do 20% begining of project, 30% when demo provided, 50% when files are handed over, installed, and bug free. Most will give full rights - just mention you want full rights in the post. Ive always used paypal and http://www.getafreelancer.com Good luck!

    Thanks

But when I know it's bug free? should I test it for a lot of months before pay the rest, and it'll not be a problem?
BTW, if it's modified from a GPL software, then I shouldn't get the full right?

Ask for a "proof of concept" first before proceeding with the deposit.

My best bet would be on a software company (team of coders) instead of a freelancer . You can rely on a company with good profile and which has been in business for a while but u never know when a freelancer dumps you..

You can find some good companies on GAF or www.sitepoint.com MarketPlace.
Go for companies with good rating and feedback.

Even we have been doing business for quite a long time on GAF as a software company. go and try GAF (we may meet there !! LOL)

I've had better luck with Scriptlance.com

Definitely follow my "proof of concept" tip...... it will save you a lot of grief (specially for larger projects).

    RAC (RentACoder.com) is better, because:
    1. Escrow is obligatory.
    2. You can ask about arbitration.

GAF, GAC, SL - act like paid bulletin board. If you have problem with other party - you receive 0(zero) help. Typical response:
"According to our terms of service we do not arbitrate, but can give recommendations.
If there's a dispute it should be solved between buyer and provider."

No, it's a NONDISCLOSURE AGREEMENT. It prevents them from 1) Copying your idea 2) selling your idea 3) disclosing your idea to your competitors.

What about Elance? How are they different than the other ones previously mentioned?

As for NDA, how realistic is it that it can be enforced when the company is in an offshore territry....

Why go with getacoder.com when there is http://www.project4hire.com
Project4Hire.com has all what you are asking. Project4Hire.com also has an escrow service.
