What should I do with $1000?

I have a couple thousand saved up from selling one of my sites, and I'm thinking I should maybe spend $1000 to make me some more money.
I was thinking of starting a business (I know $1000 isn't a lot to work with, but that's ok) and then I could buy products at wholesale prices, but I'm not sure what to sell...
Or I could buy a site. Or something else.... what should I do?

I'd say you buy got good hosting site. Start promoting it and provide users with paid and free hosting. It will definately keep you busy and you can put your money in it. I can see a good return in that. ALso you can apply for domain reseller too.

Alternatively, if you dont like your money then send it to me, I have a ton of things to do. :D

    Give it all to me.

Seriously, I'd do one of the following:
    - Buy an established website already making money
    - Buy a new, yet unique website
    - Invest in a new website starting up which you think could do well
    - Like you say, buy some products wholesale to resell, just make sure you will be able to ;)
    - Put it into your bank until you have a great idea for a new website or a good investment opportunity arises.

$1000 isn’t a lot of money, maybe you should save it. I doubt you can start a real business with it so you better think about something in the line of buying a site or maybe creating one yourself.

Save it for a rainy day. Put it in a saving account and use it in case of emergency.

Buy a network of sites. Turn them into blogs. Post articles on the blogs for money and put some adsense on there. Works for me!

Well I'm a fan of domain names cause it's more of an investment than creating more work for you.

I actually just got done writing a series about how I took a little more than $1000 and turned a 65% return in 6 months doing essentially nothing. I find domain names that make a little money, buy park, maybe sell, and wait. The money comes in.

    http://www.erikvossman.com/2007/01/09/part-i-how-to-make-money-buying-and-selling-domain-names

Anyway, you can check out the article if you'd like but that's my opinion. Easiest way, for me.

With this amount of money I would create a product - like an e-book.

Invest your money in promoting this product and double your return of investment.

The key thing in business/marketing is getting your return of investment back.

    Good luck :)

I have some money saved up and to be honest I wouldn’t invest it on the internet unless I had a very good proposition or idea. I think if you’re interested in internet businesses your best option might be starting an online store.

Well to register the business it only costs $20 I think (I started one a couple years ago). So if I sell a small product, then I could buy a decent starting amount with $1000. But I just don't know what to sell.

If you are new to web development, dont spend $1000 to start. Start with $100, make a site about something you are interested. Create something or some unique content. Find a website to make that will give users a reason to go to your site. If your site starts making some money or you get the hang of it, spend more. Otherwise, put your money in some Chinese mutual funds.

I'm starting a business with $200, and $100 of it went towards registering the business name ;)

Keep that money in your bank for now. Sit down make a business plan, decide what you want to do..plan it all out..see what you can outsource..find out what scripts you need...

I'm always amazed when people asks such questions...people always want to spend money thinking they can buy the next big thing and get rich soon...spend he money wisely..it's enough to start a business..

Alternatively, you can spend the money on a good business coach or get mentored by me ;)

pay a scripter to build you a script, 1000 can easily achieve this.
then use anything left over to pay for a bit of promo:D

I think you have a few options,

You won't be able to start up a brick and mortar type business with just $1000, but you could invest it with a bank or start an online store.

Alternatively, I have been searching for people willing to invest only a couple of hundred dollars, for which I will use to purchase a website or forum and re-develop it (it's what I do for a living, I hate the idea of getting a real job :p)

After 4 to 6 months I will repay investment plus a fair amount of intrest! I'm not talking specifics on a public forum but please feel free to PM me for details.

    Alex.

PS. I may not have been here (on DP) long but please don't judge me on that fact. I would really appreciate hearing of someone who is intrested in my idea.
