Just because you had 1 experience in which you seen better results on here than you did on sp doesnt mean one is better than the other. Everyone can place their own opinion on the two sites but the fact of the matter is that they are both great resources. You do not need to pick one, you can use both to maximize your exposure. SP has a great marketplace, I perfer their market place to DP, but DP is way better for link exchanges and networking with people in the same business as you.

Sitepoint has to be given some kudos for their marketing strategies. It did clean up the clientele/users/buyers/sellers. At times I felt that the looking to hire or selling services was a breeding ground for spammers.

I dont like the pricing. But I guess its mid priced. So its not overly expensive where one can not afford to pay out.

I have listed some things there. I have had a pretty good return for my money for the most part. I also have listed twice with no results. Just like advertising or investing there is always a chance of no return. Consider any adverts at Sitepoint along the same lines.

One more thing. I also found, even if you know you have a product sell elsewhere. Doesnt always mean it will sell at other forums. I would think timing and what the users need at the moment at a particular forum. I am sure like in 2 months time, you will have success with your script at SP and none here at DP.

Timing, product, who you are trying to make sales to, and who/how you say it/word it in your post are very important factors.

btw, dont get me wrong, i didnt say that sitepoint was bad, it just didnt work for me, i believe if it was unworthy of its posting fee, u wouldnt not have seen so many new posts made there daily. as said above me, its there to cut the spam, but even if the fee was 2$, it could already reduce the spam dramatically.

it's kinda "guarantee" that only 'quality' offers go there because u assume that if one is paying for a mere listing, he should be serious about his offer.

site point seems to be the place to sell expensive items, dp is good for cheaper-med items.

I think it's a nice change for them to make the listing for free, and charge 10$ for special listings.

The type of webmaster who hangs out at DP is quite different than the ones who hang out at SP.

DP seems to be a lot of script kiddies who are interested in turnkeys and bargains and don't care about or don't know about copyright infringement and the such. So it's easier to buy low-priced stuff no questions asked around here.

SP attracts more high-end webmasters who don't want to waste time cutting through all the noise to find the decent sites.

    You need to market accordingly.

So my questions is to you and all who keep mentioning this is: You must be one of these ppl who are looking for scripts with warez, infringements and bargain basement deals. Otherwise why are you here? You have over 250+posts. So are you ones of those ppl you are mentioning.

I have been given and found alot of advice here about SEO work, Content writing, views on politics, help with programming issues for free(cant get that at SP) and many other related items. As well as many of my domains and websites being sold here for much higher prices than at SP. My other high end website of learning and making $$ is Namepros.

Sitepoint is mainly for programming/service selling
Namepros is mainly for Domaining/service selling
Digitalpoint is mainly for SEO/webmaster related/Google/Yahoo etc.

You or anyone, by far can not even begin to compare the 3 sites let alone DP vs. SP. They are going in 2 totally different directions.

As far as script issues, I have seen the same issues at SP as well as DP and NP. One does not far better off than the others in such related issues.

You can't blame SP because your stuff didn't sell. It's the users that buy the things on the forum, not SP. They just provide the service of listing it there.

Sorry DP, but I have to side with SitePoint... there marketplace is much more clean, easy to use, and has less spam and old deals that are no longer relevant.

The fees are a tad high, but if it keeps idiots and spammers away, they serve a useful purpose.

Indeed it does keep the majority of spammers away. I still see **** being posted even in the domain area at SP. But here at DP you can help regulate some of the spammers by reporting them to the mods. There is a feature on the post where you can report such stuff.

I had to do it a few times to clean up a sales thread. The mods had the posts removed usually within minutes. That is one thing I have to give credit to the DP mods. They do a great job of helping, mentoring, assisting if you need. And yes at time they may tell you a thing or two, just because you need it. I really dont see the staff at SP being very helpful.

And anyways if you live in your community dont you keep a watchful eye for strange things. Or report incidences of trash being thrown about. So why wouldnt one do it here and report a spammy thread.

Help Keep Your Community Clean of Spammers.

I placed an ad on SitePoint last night and got an order this morning for more than the ad cost. We'll see how the ad goes over the next while, might be great ROI.

i just listed my site at SP for $40. i think if i were to be able to sell off my site, $40 would probably constitute just 5% of my revenue. wasn't able to get a sale off DP.

    LOL,

I have never purchased anything off of DP and most likely would never for the reasons that I previously listed.

I only post in General Marketing, SEO and the Legal issues forum and generally only to correct the worst of the worst bad advice that I see here.

I find it rather funny that the buying and selling section of DP has more people viewing it at this time (287) than any of the other subforums by far (Google is next at 127, not even half) yet you consider DP not to be mainly about selling.

If they're going in completely different directions then it would be easier to compare the two, that's just simple logic.

DP has a place in the webmaster world, as does SP, Warrior Forum, WickedFire, Webmasterworld, etc...

The point is that blaming SP because the OP can't sell as much product there is just dumb. It's a different market is all, for better or worse.
