How much would a site like this sell for?

Lets say, theoretically, I have a 4 year old website that brings in $1000/mo in profit, is made of all custom scripts, has over 10,000 registered users, and gets 20k - 30k unique visitors daily. How much could I sell that for in the market place on these forums, or maybe ebay?

As much as somebody is willing to pay for it.

The general rule of thumb is 10-15 X's monthly income.

I will use net profit in the benchmark rather than gross profit. Basically residual income after all the fees, salaries and cost of advertisements.

So if I were to put this site up for sale on these forums I could expect it to go for $10,000 to $15,000?

That is in theory. However in the end, it is willing buyer-willing seller.

Hi, sounds like a nice property. :)

Indeed, I'd seek probably 12-16 times net monthly income for a site of this age. The right buyer may be able to better monetize the site and thus be willing to spend a little more. Are you using those 10,000 registered members to make affiliate sales in your weekly newsletter? Are the ads optimized well? How much it's making isn't always how much it's worth, to the right buyer anyway.

Good luck with the sale, if you can take your time with it put an auction on all of the big webmaster sites with a healthy BIN and let the word spread.

    20-30k daily visitors.

You should be netting $8000-$12000 monthly.

Too often sellers don't use the right terminology. Instead of earnings if you talk about net income (net of all costs including webmaster time - the proper business way to do it) instead of "profit" which could be "gross".... and if you have all the right figures to back you up, there are plenty of people like me in DP who pay a lot more than 12x.

if your selling black market products I can see this happening. 8000k from 20k uniques. You def have to be selling something and or getting a billion clicks.

If you were actually experienced then you would know that there is no way you could make a claim like that without even knowing what kind of site it is.

That statement was based on experience with a low paying type site. (ie myspace resources)

If it's a reale state, medical or legal based site you could easily double those figures.

Well then how do you do it, it doesn't say much to just say you can make that much without actually giving any proof of concept.

With that age and volume of visitors/registered members the site could definately be make a higher income. I would think you could get 20-25K for the site. Maybe not on DP but SP has some bigger buyers. Just be careful, use escrow
