**What's your Opinion on Unique/Non Unique templates?**

Hey guys I wanted to open a thread open to discussion, would you prefer to see more unique templates being sold at a higher cost, say $70 for a coded version. Or a non-unique template being sold at $20 for a coded version? What's your decision on buying non-unique stuff? What do you buy more generally?
Just need some opinions on some of this stuff, thanks!:D

I generally take the $20 non-unique templates and tweak them up a bit.

Agree, even paying $70 you will end up tweaking it, so it is not necessary pay more unless you have no time to play with it.

I am a designer and make my own. But when I wasn't that skilled I'd download one for free and start tweaking it. From some small changes in colours and images I got to make my own layouts in photoshop and port them into the forums. Uniqueness is the most important thing for me and my sites are more and more close to my ideal. If I was a client I'd pay more for a unique EXCLUSIVE layout (that's made ONLY for me) and keep of stock themes.

Depends on how important the site I plan to use it on is.

Any decent unique template is going to sell for a whole lot more than $70.

I think by unique the OP means a template that will not be sold to other buyers & consequently used only on your site. So even though you'll end up tweaking it, the exclusivity justifies the price.

I thought a lot of the uniques on monster templates are like under $2000. That's why I'm thinking non uniques is a better way for cheap but nice designs

My reasoning to non-unique templates is because I customize / tweak them, they become a unique template. Also, if a non-unique template is sold 100 times, the chances of someone else seeing it on another website can be pretty slim (there are about 0 million websites).

There is another point to take into consideration.

Some sites offer templates as linkware or non-exclusive purchase, hence after you buy the exclusivity they remove such template but people who download it first keep the right to continue using your template as per each website's terms.
