    Hello all.

I am planning to go to India, open an office and employe 4 or 5 people. I am just about to launch a new software. I want to do this for the future development of the software.

Do you think it is a good idea.
How much do you think i will spend.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

If you are not currently in India why go all the way to India to start this company or office?

I thought the labour would be cheap. And the expenses will be cheap. And it will be a good adventure.

    Umm.. let me guess..

INR 25000 - Rent for office (one time)
INR 350000 - Initial Investment (one time)
INR 150000 - Salary of 5 employees (per month)
Electricity + Water = Around 3000 per month

I think it is very good idea to open an office in India. Now a day’s many Mac’s are preferring India because of they will get good talent at very low cost.
Cost for starting business very much depends on the location you choose for your business. If you have any idea which state or city you decided for your venture than i may be able to give you accurate information.

    Thanks

The cost depends heavily on where you plan to start your company ( India is a very BIG country :) ). If you plan to start the company in Bangalore (the IT capital of India), the cost will be very high (I have no idea abt the exact cost). But if you select some other place like Kerala (a south Indian state), the rate will be many times less.

How serious can you be about this if you aren't even willing to hit up a search engine and do some hunting on your own?

I am really serious about this. But the problem is I am not going to do anything about this until 4-5 months time. I mean I will think and do some research when the time comes.
At the moment I just want to hear from people what they think.

Personally, I think if you are serious about it, you might want to take a trip down to India and explore the 'environment'. Find out about the laws for setting up a company especially if it is through foreign ownership and the likes.

The other thing you could do is to maintain where you are and just outsource your work to Indians, that save you the trip to India, living expenses and all the other nitty gritties and especially the culture shock.

$14k to open an office in India?? Is that a small one?

It would cost less here.. or is that for a whole year or what?

You can get a small place here for maybe $1-2k per month, that is, unless you live in LA / SF / NYC / etc.

Sorry, I have no idea about that. Bangalore is a hi tech city. The rate of everything is mercilessly high there. But I don't have any idea about the actual rate. Well, its not my field :)
