Directory ... Should I start one ?

    Hi

Well, I see hundreds of directories working already. So, adding one more fish into the sea would be of any good??
To get a good PR (at least 5) how much $$$ should I spend??
And at the end of day, is there any income at all from a directory??

I do have a pretty good domain that i wanted to use as a Directory for almost 2 & half year. I did nothing mainly because I thought without PayPal I can’t do much. But now, i m reconsidering my decision and wanted to ask your opinion....

Without total commitment you will find it hard as directories take up a lot of time in support, promoting etc etc

There is revenue in Paid Directories but it takes time to get established

To get good ranking is possible but again time is the key factor, and of course you will need good back links, which if you want to network will need to be plentiful

But sure it can be done but it requires dedication :)

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I know it requires dedication & a lot of work. But commitment & dedications is all I have. (I do have a little problem on budget side)

I know it will take time to get a good ranking but that’s not an issue. With your comment, it seems like its not completely waste of time & effort.

I have been thinking that from more than one year now. But now i think, at least i should give it a try :)

I never said its easy. I just wanted to know that having a new directory at this stage is a complete stupid idea or I could expect a bit encouragement.

Yea ... that was "really" helpful.

If done correctly, you really don't need to pay money for a PR5.

Just keep building links to your site from other directories and websites. Exactly as britishguy explained above. If you want to spend the money for PR5, you can, but it really isn't necessary.

You needs lots of $ for getting a PR5 and even more Patience and loads and loads of effort with so many directories coming up everyday

starting a directory will definitely require efforts, and you are right there are hundreds and thousands of directories, but take a look on web hosting market, new and new hosts appear and you will be able to find people for advertsiments, so take your time and do it

I am willing to work hard for this as its going to be my Big Project. Currently i am planning few things out. Not having PP seems to be a big minus here .. :(

Yea.. Lots of efforts & work.. Though i dont have lots of $$$ but still, i am thinking to try my luck :)

Still looking for some comments from Big "Directory Owners"

Create a niche directory. There are thousands of general directories.

If you can get a good pagerank on the directory, i'm sure you can make some money off it
