Have you considered the SBA loan route? You've already done the marketing side, complete a business plan and fill out the necessary personal financial information. Work out your pro forma and projected balance sheet. Might work out well for you and you'll only have to put down 20%. It's a lot easier to raise 40-60k than 200-300k.

GO to the Dragon's Den and pitch your idea to the Dragons, maybe they will invest - knowing 2 of the are very keen to invest in technology startups.

Maybe your coder is pretending he has a back problem while he sneaks the idea and rakes the big bucks from it. This is only a joke by the way.

 

I would exhaust any and all options towards financing this yourself before looking for outside investors. Unless you don't want to assume the financial risk.

Keep in mind that "if you're thinking it, then somebody else is already doing it".

Meaning, be prepared to address the issue of someone launching something similar before or at the same time you do. Whoever will consider investing into your idea will sure as hell ask for contingency plans. Also, be aware that VC's tend to invest in "the man with the plan" rather than in the idea itself. In other words, having a good idea helps, but you need to show some sort of track record, knowledge of the industry you intend to operate in, be familiar with major industry players, have an existing connection network if possible and so on.

$100-$200,000 would be for marketing purposes and for upgrading the server and hiring staff once the project expands. I truly beleive that this idea will work. I am going to work on it day and night. I am in love with it!

And for marketing, it can be free if this is a really good idea.
For example, you can partner with 5 or 6 high traffic websites to get the first 100k users.
If your idea is great,
you can exchange ads on your partner before the launch
against some ads on your website after.
