What you think of free web hosting (forums, blogs) with adsense ???
Does it can earn me ???
Today most of the hosters are providing ad less hosting and hence I doubt abt the income ???

What all are the main marketing techniques of Free web hosting ???

I think free web hosting is not the way to go. Been there done that.

We started my sister's site on space that came with her ISP account. There was no control panel, no way to set up .htaccess, etc. Well, site outgrew bandwidth allotment and we had to move site. All link pointed to old host not current one. Without .htaccess we could not set up a 301 redirect. It has been just like starting over with a new site for her.

Good luck but start with an inexpensive host and domain name. Avoid those hosts that provide a domain name with hosting. Many times they will not let you transfer domain name.

As with free hosting providers, be prepared to face a lot of spam complaints, resources being used for illegal purposes, etc. IMHO, it's not worth the time or money to mess with free hosting, especially when the trouble can outweigh the returns.

Free Web hosting can definitely be profitable, but you do have to watch out for phishing / child porn sites that folks try to host with you. As for those who offer free hosting with no ads, it's only a matter of time before they're no longer in business.

Mostly the inexperienced webmaster's will go for free hosting. Through in a control panel like cPanel and you'll have all the newbies asking questions which drives up your support costs (which we don't mind as we charge so we can get along fine with those who ask lots of questions).

The good thing about that is, the newbies are a bit more experienced when they come to us so it helps keep the support costs down.

Less tickets, less support = less staff.

With free hosting, be prepared for a lot more work for probably nothing or low income. The thing is that there are 3 groups of people who may use free hosting.

One would be the totally inexperienced which means that they will contact you several times a day for support questions and will probably complained when things don't go their way.

The other group would be those who want to create fraudulent sites or banned contents. Unlike paid hosting, free hosting usually means that there is no need for verification and you probably will not know their identity which makes it a great place for spam, phishing sites, illegal contents, software or media piracy and terrorist sites. So as a web master, you will need to consistently checks and shut down those sites and also to deal with the authorities in handling them. Those sites may be heavily laden with bandwidth usages and people are probably not be interested in clicking on banners as such can cost more than what it is worth.

Then there are those who wants to host personal sites which are probably family sites or the likes which probably does not quite bring in much traffic to make it worth the while hosting them.

Just be prepared for a lot of work. If you have deep pockets and a lot of time in your hands and also you want to give back to the community, it might not be a bad idea. Hopefully in doing so, you can get sufficient income to cover part of the cost.

Besides, you be competing with the better known free hosting sites which are supported by bigger corporations with deeper pockets.

Paid hosting usually will bring less of the above problems because people do feel some pinch in paying and would tend to behave. And they will most likely know what they are doing so you get less support issues and you will get real recursive income to cover your cost.

You might want to consider niche hosting even if you are doing free hosting sites, maybe something like hobby sites so you know these people will behave.

    Friend,
I keep asking question only bcoz in DP all the members are very kind to help.Within this short period with DP I have studied a lot ........... really a lot ..... >>>>>>>.

I just have a market study by asking the expert persons in this group before starting a business. Most of the business talk I have in DP are not put into work unless it got many feedbacks and experiments.

Before starting a proxy site I simply ask DP and just as a trial I run it under my sub-domain and when I got sure that it is profit making ......... I just bought space for it.

    Just an Idea.
Again Thankz a Lot to all friends here in DP

Missed the part about the 'forums and blog' hosting.

I believe there already quite a lot of places which offers free blog hosting already including Google blogger.com and Yahoo Geocities. Forums scripts tend to be quite CPU Intensive.

Well, it depends. Some are offering free hosting using a subdirectory hosting and I believe they may want to upsell you their paid hosting services. The free hosting in which case would just be used as a teaser for their full service. Think about it as part and parcel of the advertisement cost.

It is like the stunt which 1and1 did years back where it offers free 5 years hosting when it tried to penetrate the US market. It sure is cheaper than just doing advertising and as such they were able to get a large pool of potential customers in a short time. Of course, they only offered a limited number of free hosting accounts but their plan worked, people would be aware of who 1and1 is.

Forums software can be quite CPU Intensive meaning that it uses a lot of the CPU and if you plan to host a lot of forum sites, you probably best to use a dedicated server especially if the forums are very active. Otherwise it will be very very slow.

Forum software are mostly PHP based and makes a lot of MySQL calls. Everything some user does, it will access the database, either to read or write.
