SEO friendly CMS

    I have a couple of sites built with this sytem www.sitewright.co.uk which have
    done really well on search engines etc and cms is very flexible. However, the guys who developed it are quite busy at the moment so i am looking at other options and another company mentioned building our site with Joomla - my only worry is how SEO friendly it will be - would love your thoughts?

    Drupal is very SEO friendly. Joomla, not as much (you'll need to install mods to make it as SEO friendly as Drupal).

    I use Joomla on # of sites. You can install Free components to make it totally SEF.

    You can install some modules to make joomla SEO friendly ,but it also brings some issues if your site integrates with SWF forum.

    It really depends on how good programmer you are.

    You can use Drupal, but the problem there is that you are limited to the design templates that they provide, which I don't like at all. But it is easy to build new if you know how to do so.

    I have used Mambo and Joomla for most of my projects, and have nothing to complain about. The community is the largest one, and I'm sure you will find all the components and module you need.

    The SEO part is simple. Just install components and you are ready to go. Remember also to include 301 redirect in your .httaccess file.

    All you really need to make Joomla SEO friendly is the Artio SEF component. The rest is still up to you, creating content and titles that are search optimized

    i have seen drupal optimzied very well.. the admin looks great on it.. never used it but would consider it if I need it in the future.

    If you have money, the best choice probably is NetCat. If you are not ready to invest $1700 into your on-line business, JoomlaCMS is what you need.

    To make Joomla! SEO tweaked I use:

    1) SEF Patch:
    This will put the name of the page infront of the name of the site, meta tag output will be better and some more tweaks, you can find them on their site.
    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,490/Itemid,35/


    2) SEF URL:
    These will make you URL look static using the words from your page title. List of all extensions: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,listcats/cat_id,1803/Itemid,35/
    I am using Artio JoomSEF: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1063/Itemid,35/

    3) Install a sitemap
    List of all sitemap components: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,listcats/cat_id,1806/Itemid,35/
    I am using Joomap:(http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,202/Itemid,35/) because you can also submit it to google sitemaps.

    Joomla problem
    The only problem I see with Joomla is the lack of H1 tag. The title of the page is css styled as contentheading instead of H1. I guess contentheading means nothing to SE. Although you can hide the title and make your own with the H1 tag. But that is kind of lame :eek:
