My ebook site and paypal disputes

I have had www.wholesalechecklist.com for a long time, but I never really spent the time into it that it deserved. Because of this, I get maybe 1 sale every month or so.

The problem is that about 2 out of 5 of these sales turn into disputes through paypal just so the buyer gets their money back. Since it is an ebook, they basically got it for free.

I am considering putting some time and effort into this site, but I dont think I can handle people keep filing disputes with paypal. Its not like my list is bad either, I spent a very long time on it and perfected it.

Should I work on the site more or should I just sell it?

 

to be honest i think you should pin point why they are filling disputes?

have you tried asking them

if you can solve this problem, it will make your site worthwhile..

 

Collect their phone number and address before you supply them the download, you can also mail them a CD instead of just giving them a download link.

 

Withdraw the money from Paypal, so it is yours, then the headache of getting the money back will be the buyers, and this should sufficiently discourage potential scammers.

 

This will lead to your paypal account being closed.

 

I do email the customers that want refunds. Half of them do not respond, and the other half come up with excuses that are clear bull.

Its just sad that people will scam $10 for a list I spent a lot of time on...

 

No it won't - there is no rule saying you have to keep your money in your paypal account - I keep a bare minimum $100 and withdraw the rest, all the time.

 

I sell digital products on several sites.
I put a disclaimer, that basically says, you buy it, you got it. No refunds.

Once in 2-3 months, someone will want their money back, and I do so cheerfully.

Vast majority of people are honest buyers, and not out to scam you.
If you are getting so many chargebacks, check what you are selling-price you are selling-and are you giving your customers service.

PS...if there is a chargeback against your paypal account and there is no money in it, and you lose...they will take the money from your bank account and/or credit card.
If not, you may find your account frozen until you pay.

 

I tell them to read the disclaimer I had one lady that demanded a refund after having downloaded the product almost 2 months prior to complaining. I asked her why it took her 58 days to request a refund and why she was selling my product on ebay (gotta love "About Me" pages). Fun stuff. No refunds means no refunds. I'm ungodly strict on that one.

 

I just cant handle this chargeback business. I think I am just going to make my ebook into a webpage and provide it as free info. Maybe I will make money selling ad space or something....

Or should I just sell the website as is?

 

Not a way to build a business. If they want refunds, and if you state that you give refunds, or do not clearly state that you don't provide refunds, or don't provide what you state in your sales letter, it's their right to ask for a refund. Just don't do business with them anymore but its not something to ruin your business and your name for. Pay them and move on...

I have not done ebook sale before but generally I find that people are generally quite honest. I always make it a policy to only deal with verified paypal account holders.

Without seeing your website, if you have not done so, you might want to put a sampler of your ebook such as the table of contents and maybe a couple of pages for them to see. The trouble is that if you have a product which they cannot 'sample', they may not feel that they got their money's worth and do the chargeback.
