Do all "real" webmasters have at least 1 porn site in their portfolio?

I've been in the business for a few years, and it seems that those who do the best are those that understand what their medium is used for.

People go to the internet for things they're too embarrassed to ask someone else about. Sex, drugs, black market etc....

I'm getting the feeling that all webmasters have something like that going on, on the side. And know I want in. (hahaha) No but seriously, I'd like to get a simple porn site where I earn through affiliate sales.

But I don't know where to start, is it easy enough to create myself, or should I buy something pre-made?
Finally is the whole idea worth my time or not?

It is definitely possible to make money by running only wholesome sites. Whether they have porn in the mix probably would depend on the individual. Some probably don't do it for moral, religious and legal issues.

The porn industry probably is quite saturated so it probably is no different from the mainstream business. The issue is that there is so much free contents out there that people may not pay. Besides paying means that they will need to provide some information about them and that may not be too nice.

 

I think I am not a real webmaster afterall.

 

hehe no nandini, isnt quite like that, i dont think all the webmasters have atleast one porn site, specially indian based, on indian servers is a nono.

 

i know myself as a webmaster i stay far away from the thought
of having a porn site in portfolio
i believe in a honest approach to making a living

 

Why you think running adult sites is not honest? I would like to know more.

 

People who own 1 dirty site probably have loads more in their portfolio.

 

Believe it or not, I have no porn in my list of sites that I manage.

 

I agree, every decent webmaster have at least one black sheep. I have 3 myself. Hardly make one signup a month.

I think if you are not dedicated to the thing, don't even start it. It's not a goldmine...

This could have been true few years ago. But today ther are hundreds of way to earn money from your websites apart from catering to only 18+ audiences.

It's because even though we may not like to admit it, the above is still true. The internet is taking off for other reasons as well, shopping etc, but the underbelly of the net is huge.

 

I never said you can`t earn from Adult websites... all I said is there are thousands of more ways to earn living from net by catering to a family audience today than few years ago.

 

I think you're generalizing too much.

There is plenty of money to made with non-adult affiliate programs, and there are many people who use the internet for reasons other than searching for embarassing things.

Porn sites are a thing of the past, and on their way out, at least in terms of generating revenue. A decade ago, most were charging a couple of dollars per minute to watch live people on streaming video. Now sites charge that much (or less) for a monthly subscription. Even at that drastic price reduction, most have a difficult time earning money because most everything can be downloaded for free on file sharing networks.

You can probably still earn a living with it, but it would require your attention around the clock. If you're putting that much effort into it, then you can probably make as good of a living putting that much attention into a non-controversial market. Stick to what you enjoy doing rather than chasing some mythical dollar around the net.

 

The webmasters that do not like porn do not have it, the others have, simple.
Porn sites a thing of the past ??? Never. There are only fewer sites that makes more money. Its big money in porn, but incredible difficult to get to that money.
