i want your help about opening a site!

hi all,
i know most of u think that this is not the right section to post in but i think its right because i am asking about this.

i want to open a webmasters forum but i have to ask few questions about this:
1- what is the name of the sections shall be?
2- how to get a traffic and more users?
3- how to earn money with this site else than ads?
4- i am thinking of opening a section for buy/sell what do u think and shall i make it pay per post or get a vip member ship to sell or to get some stuff?

please give me ideas for this site and tell me if you have other plans that can get me a great amount of money and same time get a many members same time and many guests too.

 

Start your forum with only a few sections. Just do a search on a few web forums to give you more ideas.

People tend to leave your site if they see a number of forums with no activities.

 

yeah right thats a good point but what about traffic?

 

I would recommend getting forum posters to keep the forum alive and get a good design so people do not automatically exit the site.

These two things will help you keep new members active, as for getting the members however, that is a tough one.

I would recommend coming up with a promotion like a free domain giveaway to the person with the most referrals. You could promote this promotion through blog posts and social networking sites.

Well, if you have a posse, you can always round them up and get them to be active on your forum. Empty or inactive forums tends to remain empty. It is one of those things where traffic gets traffic.

You will definitely need to be active in your own forum. Maybe you can run some contests or something and get people to get over. Do it discreetly and never break any TOS of other forums or websites while doing that.

 

Hey, I sent you a PM about it. Look at what I've done with my webmasters forum which is called www.wmdtalk.com. It stands for Webmasters Manage Domains. Although I don't have a lot of traffic everything the people said above is so so true. People do actually come to my site daily but they leave www.wmdtalk.com almost within 5 minutes because they see no action on the forums. Now, I wish people wouldn't think this way but they do because people in general have a short attention spam. There's not a damn thing that is special about Digitalpoint if you ask me. Design is standard, and the name isn't cool at all, BUT I joined because I saw there were a lot of people posting and a lot of cool subjects.

As far as traffic. What I'm currently doing is hiring a kid that creates videos and uploads them to YouTube. I'm only paying him $20 if I get 100+ members. I saw this random kid on YouTube that made stupid videos, but for some reason, they were viewed over 20,000 times. So I looked at this opportunity as a cheap way to get my website out to thousands of people. I emailed him and he's creating me a video for WMDtalk.com. Hopefully when he submits it, it will get some buzz. I refuse to pay for traffic from these sites that promise 5000 unique visitors. They are a scam. The legitimate ones, and there are some, can cost too much money that it's not even worth it. I've done it, it doesn't work. You better hope you have a product that will convert to direct sales, or people that will continue to stimulate conversation, thus creating more pages and more pageviews. If you do pay for traffic and it doesn't come, you will feel like the biggest idiot. The key is just networking and getting known people to write about it. That's the bottom line. John Chow said that if you want to overdo it with advertising, then do it gradually. People will complain regardless. If they don't like your site, they won't come. Most people will get over advertising on your website, their eyes will naturally look somewhere else, but that doesn't mean you can't flood your site with ads.

More ads equal more money but you have to balance this out with design as well. I'm no expert at all, but that's my advice and I'm trying to do exactly what I've said above. PM me if you need me, or join my forum below.
