    Hello,

I am interested in finding out what the most effective business promotion methods are for offline promoting? I own a UK based web site design company and am currently interested in advertising it as much as possible.

    Thanks

Browse around and find some crap sites from people in your area. Then visit them with a free report on how their site could do much better for them.

web designing and offline, hmm, weired.
Hire a markettin guy and make him call every1 and visit every client (poor guy), but somebody has to do it.

One of my wacko ideas would be, design a t shirt with lots of print and in it written "Imageine wat we could do to ur website?" and distribute it freely to all the employees.

you might look for local associations (like a homeowners association etc...) and try to become a part of them. do their site for free if you can sponsor it or something. and get some testimonials from people.

Find some charitable organizations that you believe in, design (or redesign) their website and then issue a press release for each one when the site launches. You can deduct your work form taxes as charity work (actually not sure how it works in the UK), build links to your web site and gain word of mouth at the same time. Plus you are giving back to something you believe in.

Also, the old tale is true, network, network, and network!

I'm currently doing this for vidtutorial.com and haven't received much traffic as a result. Could be just the category, the video quality, etc., but overall - I haven't received more than 100 visitors from youtube.

You may consider to target classified sites and yellowpages as well.

I am already planning on the YellowPages. How would I go about approaching charities? Do I just phone them up and offer them a free web site because that doesnt seem very professional.

    Keep the ideas coming. Thansk

For charities, just call them up ask them what type of volunteer opportunites there are. If they don't mention the web, just ask. Say I do this for a living, do you need any help there? But don't lead off with it :) It works better after you get them talking.

When you do design/ redesign the charities web site, make sure you link back to your companies web site. And don't forget to issue the press release with links to your website and business phone number.

    Drums up business everytime :)

Approach charities as a non-profit organisations rather than more ‘personal’ manner, I would suggest to start approaching your local community first, try to involve few respected person of your society.

I would go with the person above who said to find local companies (preferably smaller ones) that do not have a website, and ask them if you could make them one for cheap. Also ask if you can be a sponsor or something, and get a testimonial from them.

Business promotion is to running a successful business as practicing scales is to playing the piano well; it may not be a thrilling activity in itself, but you just have to do it! You should spend at least an hour a day on business promotion or planning how to promote your business.
