Should i keep my websites as a hobbie?

    Hello,
    I have 2 websites:

One is about 1 year old and is pr5, i get about 1500 - 2000 unique visitors a month 2500 - 3000 visitors in total. It has a piece of free software i wrote to create wordsearches, and some the site has some example wordsearches. Main visitors are educational. I run adsense on it and get less than a dollar a day.

The other is only a month old, has no pr yet, but is still getting between 40-80 visitors a day even though it is not yet correctly ranked on the search engines, and most visitors come from wikipedia link. It is a site about Aggressive Skating.

My question is, should i accept these sites will pay for them selves and spend a bit of time on them as a hobbie, or should i go all out and try to make a career out of these (and any other sites i come up with)?

I really enjoy webdesign/programming, and even the promotion side of things.

I'm really stuck as to what the next step should be? Are these sites going to make me some decent money with this amount of visitors? If so whats my best method of advertising?

    Thanks

    Late

Website managment can be so funy but the advertising side of things is another story! I spen around $50 a month advertising and thats enough but at the end of the day, it all adds up.

    Sell up!

That's a lot of visitors you got there, lateuk. Have you tried incorporating a squeeze page yet? If you have a mailing list of that amount of people, well it's pretty much a goldmine, you know.

I think you should make a part-time career out of your site.
It's always best to monetize your site unless it will hurt your integrity.
I mean why not make some money if you can do it legally and without harming anybody?

Well, if you can afford to give it a go full time, then go for it. But if you are depending on an income from your website, don't quit your day job. Making it to a point where you can make a decent living off of a few websites will take a lot of time, and a lot of work. If you can afford to keep your current job and still dedicate 2 or 3 hours a day to your sites, that might be the best thing to do as long as you are depending on an income.

I enjoy the registration, design, optimization, and the first few months. After a while i dont really enjoy it as i have done everyhting i can for that particular site.

What do you think is my next step then? How can i make more money from it that the small amount that is coming in from adsense?

I think you should keep them, and work on monetising them a bit more - make it so that they pay for themselves AND give you a little pocket money on top.

It shouldn't take too much optimisation to get a bit more out of the sites, the basis and traffic is already there.

Have you tried different placements of the ads, different colors schemes, different sizes?

    Test, test, test.

I think you can keep it as a part-time since you got the time and knowledge. you cn start make more money by selling links or advertising. this way i think you can earn more than a dollar a day for sure. ^^
