Image Hosting Site ???

I have seen many image hosting sites here.So whether it can generate me some earnings for adsense ???

Is it really cost to start a image hosting site ?

 

There are tons of image hosting sites try to find something original to do if you want some meaningful earnings.

 

Image hosting sites do not make a lot of money - I have a couple, and they use a lot of bandwidth - 200+ Gig/mth to bring in around $30 - there are much easier ways to earn a few $ than an image host.

 

I don't know. I just feel as if creating an image hosting site will create more harm than good unless you know exactly what you are doing.
It's better to have an exit strategy as things can go sour if someone uploads nasty pictures and spams.

Well, I deal with images all the time. Images can take up quite a huge amount of space and thus can be storage and bandwidth intensive. People who use it may not click on any banners or ads. Besides if you allow direct linking like in a forum like what some people do, those pictures does not show up any links to your site or even your advertisement. So people may not know where it is hosted and may not visit you or click your adsense ads.

SInce you are dealing with pictures, they do not work well with adsense. You may need to sell CPM type advertisements or find someone who would pay you a fix sum of money to advertise.

Besides, you need to ensure that you do not host any illegal images or else it can lead to very bad publicity for you.

I comment you for trying to find a way of making money but try to find a niche which is untapped and does not cost you less than what you can make from it. Although Adsense can give you a nice income, do not make it the source of your bread and butter. You cannot force anyone to click on your ads so people may not. I never clicks on ads myself. Adsense may give you a nice bonus but that's pretty much that's it.

 

i wonder how much bandwidth might a imagehosting site take per month , what do u think imageshack's bandwidth consumption is ?

 

I never owned an image hosting site but I believe they will eat up a lot of bandwidth and server space compared to the earnings we can get off them .

 

Bandwidth can get very very expensive!

 

yeah, i agree with netpox. i tried to run an image hosting site awhile back but it was useless. most people use photobucket and tinypic anyways.

 

agreed I run Image-Pimp.net,
been extensively advertised over myspace and only get 400 uniques per day
not much income, quite a bit of bandwidth tho not so much thats its costing me anything except my normal hosting account

 

There are tons of those already. Also, it consumes a lot of bandwidth and yes space. Think about it.

 

If you do it, look for one of those el cheapo hosting accounts with promises you tons of bandwidth such as http://www.dreamhost.com . If they stand up to their promise, you can stretch your dollar quite far. Otherwise, the only way to go would be with a dedicated server with unmetered bandwidth and big harddisks. Also work with a web host who is tolerant about such things because if you give people freedom, there is a possibility that they may overstep their welcome by posting underage porn, illegal porn and copyrighted materials since they have nothing really much to lose. As a web host, you are the one that will take in all the heat.

You also have to be at least be reactive and when you get emails complaining about copyrighted images or undesirable images, you need to take them down.

If you plan to make money from this, I will say this is definitely not the place to go. If you have a deep pocket and it is your interests then feel free to explore.

I knew the guy who ran putfile.com and although it is huge with quite a number of servers, he did not quite make money from the venture and finance the whole operations from his other business. He however use putfile.com as a way to promote his other services.

 

Dreamhost will terminate your account before you reach 50% of the bandwidth they "promise".

Their terms state they can terminate you due to excessive CPU usage or RAM usage.

 

Oh well, I guess it is just all a dream .. a pipe dream.

 

They are painful to run, cause once you hit a nude pic from forum, your bw goes to hell, used about 15 gig in a day when only i got hit by 1 nude pic, had to block lots of ip to get rid of those leechers. . So make sure what you are doing cause it does not take much for one pic to kill ur bw. I seen it with my own eyes (yaa i seen both the nude pic and bw eaten )
